OFF THE FIELD STORIES

·         Met former Gator Lorenzo Edwards at camp when he was 11 or 12 years old and the two kept in contact before eventually playing together at Florida

·         Came to Florida thinking he would play defensive end, but the staff decided he would be better suited inside. He had to gain so much weight so fast that he was put into former strength and conditioning coach Mickey Marotti’s “Breakfast Club,” which consisted of a rigorous eating plan where participants are watched by coaches and forbidden to leave the training table until their required portion of food is finished

·         The “Breakfast Club” gave him an extreme appetite for pancakes and hatred for omelets

·         Captain of team Go Gettas for the 2011 Gator Football Charity Challenge

·         Favorite athlete is Ken Griffey, Jr.

·         Favorite hobby is fishing

·         Favorite food is hot wings

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING

“He’s one of UF’s most experienced defensive players and the former defensive end is very quick and athletic for a man his size.” (6/2/11)

Robbie Andreu, Gainesville Sun

"I saw a guy that's starting to grow up around here. He has not played to his potential and he's starting to play to it."  (9/5/10)

Urban Meyer, former UF Head Coach, after Howard’s career-high two sacks vs. Miami University

“If you were to poll Florida players and coaches and ask them which defensive lineman will have a big year for the Gators, I suspect most votes would go to Jaye Howard.” (8/16/10)

Larry Vettel, FightinGators.com

“Howard offers Florida one of its best pass-rushing options on the interior of the defensive line in the past few years.” (7/13/10)

Thomas Goldkamp, GatorBait.net

“He’s improved. He’s a strong kid and he’s got great want-to. He can run well for a big kid, and he really wants to be a great player. He’s got an unbelievable desire to be good.”

Greg Mattison, former UF co-defensive coordinator
