John Brantley

CAREER: A redshirt sophomore quarterback who threw for 235 yards and three touchdowns in backup action last season.

 

2008: Dressed for every game and saw action in all contests except for Miami, Tennessee, Ole Miss and Alabama…Went 18-for-28 for 235 yards with three touchdowns and one interception… Led the Florida offense on 22 drives, with 10 ending in a touchdown…Threw his first career touchdown on a 38-yard pass to David Nelson in the fourth quarter against Kentucky…Saw his most action of the season after leading the Gators through 2.5 quarters versus the Citadel, where he had a career day, completing 8-of-11 for a career-high 110 yards and one score…Recorded the second touchdown of his career on a pass to Deonte Thompson in the win over Georgia…Made the first appearance of his career versus Hawaii, where he attempted one pass and rushed for one yard.

 

2007: Redshirted during his true freshman year…Dressed for all 13 games during the season but did not see any action.

 

PREP: Heralded as one of the top-three overall quarterback prospects in the nation by Rivals.com…Was chosen as a U.S. Army All-American and the Gatorade National Player of the Year in 2006…Owned a 27-1 record as a starter and broke the state record for career touchdown passes with 99, topping the total of 98 shared by UF quarterback Tim Tebow and Florida State signal-caller Xavier Lee…Threw for 2,766 yards and 41 touchdowns in his final prep season…Established a Trinity Catholic career passing record with 6,802 yards…Was an all-state selection in Class 2B…A Scout.com five-star passer who was named the Most Valuable Player of the Elite 11 Quarterback Camp…As a junior, he threw for over 2,800 yards and had 41 touchdowns in leading Trinity Catholic to the Class 2B State title…During his sophomore season, Brantley threw for over 1,200 yards, 17 touchdowns and only one interception…Chose Florida over Texas.

 

PERSONAL: Born March 3, 1989…Father, John Brantley III, is a former University of Florida quarterback and his mother is Karen…Uncle, Scot Brantley, is a former All-American linebacker for the Gators…High school coach was former UF quarterback Kerwin Bell.
