TRAVIS HARRIS

  • Wears his hair in dreadlocks to honor his God-brother Maurice Martin who died of leukemia
  • One thing that would surprise people about him is how crazy he is on the field
  • Attended DeKalb HS in Decatur, Ga., the same school that produced former Georgia QB Quincy Carter
  • Is considered by his teammates to have the best sense of humor on the team
  • After playing linebacker his entire football career, moved to defensive end before his junior season in 2003 during spring drills
  • Volunteers at local elementary schools because he likes being a role model
  • Before the 2003 Georgia game, Bobby McCray gave Travis Harris, his replacement at defensive end, a pair of his size 13 Jordan football cleats to wear during the game. "I think the shoes rubbed off something," Harris said. Me and him are close, and I wanted to wear his shoes. I think he felt like a piece of him was out there with me wearing his shoes." Inspired by the footwear, Harris delivered two of the game's biggest plays. On third and goal, with the Bulldogs on UF's four-yard line in the fourth quarter, Harris broke up a pass intended for fullback Jeremy Thomas and forced Georgia into kicking a game-tying field goal instead of scoring a go-ahead touchdown. Earlier in the game, Harris provided the game's first shift in momentum after he delivered a hit on Greene, sacking him at the UF 14 and forcing the Bulldogs to once again settle for a field goal, this one just before halftime.

What They Are Saying About TRAVIS HARRIS

"Harris, a redshirt sophomore, and (Todd) McCullough, a true sophomore, are a pair of dynamic play-makers who are too good to keep off the field." (Preseason 2002)
GatorBait Preseason Yearbook

"A person who surprised me was Travis Harris. I've known him since high school and he's always hustled. He's a big, energetic person like Zook. He's always joking, he's the biggest clown on the team. I don't think he realizes how funny he is. He's one of those people you love to have on your side." (July 10, 2003)
