"I think [Lee and McCray] both have had real good springs. They've matured a lot. A sense of urgency is a good way to describe it. I think they're looking for this year to excel."
(April 11, 2003) Red Anderson, UF Defensive Line Coach

"The greatest thing we have this year is carry-over -- there are some changes but there's a lot of carry-over and he knows what to expect. It's a lot easier for him. Last year he didn't have any idea and we were starting out with a different coach and he had to go though that acclimation process. He's older and more mature now and he's able to look at things with a different perspective."
(August 28, 2003) Red Anderson, UF Defensive Line Coach

"Potential. Oh, he knows all about that word. He's been hearing it and trying to live up to it since his very first freshman practice, when the coaches marveled at his size, strength and quickness and couldn't help utter the word. Darrell Lee has incredible potential."
(April 4, 2003) Robbie Andreu, Gainesville Sun

"I would never hesitate to put him in this situation (as a starter). You're talking about a guy that has all the tools and all the potential in the world."
(August 8, 2001) Ricky Hunley, Former Florida Defensive Line Coach

"Now I've got to show everybody what I can do. I haven't really had a chance due to some injures and some other things, but it all comes down to this. This is it. I'm healthy right now and ready to go. I have the talent to go further, and I just need to go out and show it."
(March 29, 2003) Darrell Lee, UF Defensive End

"I'm healthy. That's the difference. Honestly, I feel I can be one of the best defensive ends in the country, if not the best d-end in the country. Providing I'm healthy."
(April 4, 2003) Darrell Lee, UF Defensive End

"Everybody who expects things from's no more than I expect from myself. I'll be upset with myself before I worry about upsetting someone else. I expect to be a leader on the defense and make a name for myself this season. I'm healthy right now and that's the main thing."
(April 4, 2003) Darrell Lee, UF Defensive End

"I came down here with one brother, now I feel like I have a whole bunch. This is one of the closest teammates (Bobby McCray) that I have. There are some people that you grow closer to and I think us being at the same position and being around each other all the time, we've grown fond of each other."
(August 20, 2003) Darrell Lee, UF Defensive End

"I'm stronger now than since I've been here. I had a good summer. I'm stronger all-around in squat, bench, power-clean. I've been able to do everything. Because of my wrist or shoulder, there have been certain lifts I haven't been able to do in the past. I've gotten back to doing all of them."
(August 28, 2003) Darrell Lee, UF Defensive End

"He's having a really good spring. He's really stepped it up. He has a lot of potential and we have to get it out of him."
(April 4, 2003) Charlie Strong, UF Defensive Coordinator

"They (Darrell Lee and Bobby McCray) could be as good as any pair of defensive ends in the country. I've told them that in order for us to be a good defense, they have to play hard. They can lift a defense up. They have the talent."
(August 14, 2003) Charlie Strong, UF Defensive Coordinator

"Darrell Lee is not even the same guy compared to last year. I'm very happy with the way Darrell has gotten better, as has Bobby McCray. They're both trying to lead in different way. I'm impressed with both of them. That's what you're supposed to do. It's a good feeling to see those two guys with the way they're competing and the way they're trying to do what we ask them to do."
(April 21, 2003) Ron Zook, UF Head Coach

"The guy who has probably made as much progress as anyone on defense is Darrell Lee. I'm really impressed with the way he's working and improving and the way he's trying to lead."
(April 9, 2003) Ron Zook, UF Head Coach
