Florida Basketball Practice Complex
Florida's $10 million state-of-the-art private basketball practice facility, which opened in the October of 2001, is the nation's premier practice complex. The two-story 47,505 square foot facility includes multiple practice gyms, a training room, a 1900-square foot weight room, locker rooms, coaches' offices, conference rooms equipment room, team lounge area and film/video rooms with theatre style seating to give the Gators the only basketball exclusive practice facility in the Southeastern Conference. The design team of RDG Sports in Des Moines, Iowa began the project in September of 1999 and construction began in July of 2000.
In September of 2007 a $1.8 million project was completed in the facility to celebrate the history of the Florida basketball program, while adding state-of-the-art technology.
One Up, a joint venture between Florida-based XOS Technologies and Downstream, an Oregon design firm, completed the extensive project for the University of Florida men’s and women’s basketball programs.
One Up redesigned many areas of the facility including the atrium, which welcomes visitors with a twenty-foot chandelier comprised of inspirational images and words. Below, trophy cases celebrating the Florida men’s team’s championships also feature monitors relaying highlights of the seasons. On the second floor, a dynamic Gallery Media Display showcases more trophies and team memorabilia. Visitors can also engage interactive screens to review highlight clips of Gator Greats who have gone on to play in the NBA and WNBA. The most surprising twist is meant to inspire players in the practice gym. Here, pieces of hallowed hardwood hang from above, as suspended from the ceiling with the logos from each of Florida’s four Final Four appearances. Another key coaching advantage is revealed when opening the padded doors to display the Coaching Command center that is housed on both the Men’s and Women’s courts. This Command Center has a Large LCD monitor and a VCR/DVD used to view film during practice.
