University of Florida Head Track and Field Coach Tom Jones enters his 29th year of coaching and his eighth year at the University of Florida in 1999. As he did from the start, he continues his commitment to excellence in cross country, track and field and the classroom.
The 1999 Florida campaign was another successful year for the Gators, adding their eighth national top-10 finish in the last 10 years and their fifth NCAA trophy in the 90s indoors and another top-20 finish outdoors. The guiding force behind it all, Jones was named both indoor and outdoor South Region coach of the year for the second straight year.
In the spring of 1998, Jones led Florida to yet another record breaking season. For the first time in Southeastern Conference history, the Gators claimed back-to-back conference championships in both cross country and outdoor track. After earning NCAA Division I, SEC Indoor and SEC Outdoor Coach of the Year honors and National Co-Coach of the Year honors in 1997, he continued to earn recognition in 1998.
