Lindsay Sundell begins her first year as a volunteer assistant coach for the cross country team after four very successful years as a Gator.
Sundell racked up eight top-10 finishes in cross country and four victories on the track before ending her four-year career in 2008. She ranks in the top four on six UF record lists, including the top spots for fastest 6K time on the UF Golf Course by a Florida runner and the fastest 6K NCAA South Regional time. She also has the second-fastest 6K time, both overall and in the Southeastern Conference Championship. Her 5K time on the Golf Course earned the third spot in the Florida record books and her 6K NCAA championship time ranks fourth. She was Florida’s top finisher at the South Regionals from 2005 to 2007 and helped the team to an 11th-place finish at the NCAA Championships, the highest Florida women have ever placed.
The distance runner also holds the best time for the 3,000m steeplechase, seventh-best for the outdoor 5,000m event and ninth-best for the indoor 3,000m event.
The three-time All-South Regional Cross Country runner also picked up All-SEC Cross Country honors in 2006, All-SEC outdoor second-team honors in 2008 and was on the SEC Academic Honor Roll for all four years of her career. In 2008, she also competed in the 3,000m Steeplechase Semifinals at the U.S. Olympic Trials, finishing 19th.
In 2007, Sundell competed in all five races for the Gators and finished in the top three for Florida every time. At the South Regional Championship, she ran the 6K in 21:00.78, setting a new UF Course record for Florida runners as the team took third place. In 2006, she competed in six races and scored in five of them. She was the Florida’s top finisher in four races that year, including winning the Mountain Dew Invitational. At the SEC Championship, Sundell ran the 6K in 20:23.86, not only a personal best, but the second-best 6K time by a Gator ever. In 2005, she also scored in every race, finishing first or second for Florida in five of six meets.
Her track highlights include two second-place finishes in the 3,000m steeplechase at the 2007 and 2008 Outdoor SEC Championships. She also came in second at the 2008 NCAA East Regional Championships in the same event. In 2007, she set a career-best time (10:07.25), the top time in the Florida record books, for the steeplechase at the Regionals, finishing fourth. She also ran in the NCAA Championships Preliminaries as a junior and senior. In 2006, Sundell was a member of the SEC Indoor runner-up distance medley relay team and finished fourth in the 3,000m event.
Sundell is currently living in Gainesville, and working toward finishing her advertising degree.
