At North Carolina: Competed in five meets including ACC Championship and Southeast Regional Championship … Ran a season-best time of 25:44.0 at the ACC Championship.

Track Highlights: Ran the 3,000m unattached at the 2007 Diet Pepsi Invitational, placing ninth in 8:41.37 … Ran the 3,000m unattached at the 2009 Tom Jones Memorial Invitational, placing 11^th in 9:32.54.

Prep: Coached by Peter Huminski … Two-time all-state and all-conference in cross country … State runner-up in cross country in 2004 … Named Conference Runner of the Year in both track and cross country for the 2004-05 season … Graduated with school records in the 800m, 1,600m, 3,200m and 5K … Also played soccer and was named a NSIC All-American … Four-year member of the honor roll.

Personal: Son of David and Kelly Smith … Father ran track and cross country at Brevard Junior College … Has one older brother, David, who played tennis at Pfieffer University … Admires Billy Mills because he was the underdog in the 10K at the 1964 Olympics, yet he took the gold … Chose Florida for its academics and track programs.
