Volunteer Assistant Peter Hess
Peter Hess joins the Florida program this year as a volunteer assistant coach. A graduate of Iowa State University in 2003, Hess earned All-Big 12 academic honors in both cross country and track and field while earning his bachelors degree in finance and management information systems.
A Nebraska State Champion in the 1,600 meters, Hess excelled mainly in the mile, the 1,500m, and 800m while running for the Cyclones. In 2003, Hess clocked his season best in the mile on the biggest stage at the Big 12 Campionships crossing the line in 4:12.03 placing him seventh. It was the second year in a row Hess clocked his personal best at the Big 12 Championships. In 2002, Hess set a personal-best time of 3:50.11 in the 1,500m run at the season ending event.
During the 2001 season, Hess clocked a season best 1:52.51 in the 800-meter run to place third at the Duncan Invitational while earning his first of four nominations to a Big 12 All-Academic Team. At Iowa State, Hess also served on the Student Athlete Advisory Council and the Athletic Council for four years. He also spent time volunteering at such organizations as Special Olympics, Habitat for Humanity and Read Across America.
Hess earned his Bachelors of Science degree in management information systems and finance from Iowa State in May 2003. Prior to coming to serve as a volunteer assistant at Florida, Hess spent the summer working as a corporate information systems web tech for General Mills in Minneapolis, Minn.
Hess currently resides in Gainesville.
