The MLB amateur draft is well into Day 3 this afternoon. So far, right-hander Greg Larson is the lone Florida player selected on Wednesday. Larson went to the Red Sox in the 20th round, joining Brian Johnson (first round) and Austin Maddox (third round) as Boston picks.

Here are some fresh links from around the Internet discussing the nine Gators selected thus far in the 2012 draft:

--Larry Stone of the Seattle Times explores how catchers selected in the top 10 picks of the draft – Gators catcher Mike Zunino went third overall to Seattle – have fared over the past 25 years.

--Here is more from Stone’s Mariners blog discussing what Seattle GM Jack Zduriencik and scouting director Tom McNamara had to say about Zunino.

--Gators left-hander Brian Johnson pitches and plays first base for the Gators, but the Red Sox drafted him in the first round to turn him into a full-time pitcher according to the Boston Herald.

--Gators shortstop Nolan Fontana was taken with the first pick of the second round by the Astros, who opened the draft on Monday night by taking shortstop Carlos Correa with the first overall pick.

--Gators reliever Steven Rodriguez, taken in the second round by the Los Angeles Dodgers, could be on the fast track to the majors writes Alex Angert of MLB.com.

--Gators closer Austin Maddox was selected by Boston in the third round, reuniting him with a familiar face if both players sign with the Red Sox writes the Providence Journal.

--Gators outfielder Preston Tucker improved his stock in the draft, going to the Astros in the seventh round after not being selected until the 16th round by Colorado in last year’s draft. The SBNation blog CrawfishBoxes.com examines Tucker’s selection.

--The Tigers stocked up on pitching on Day 2 of the draft, including Gators right-hander Hudson Randall in the seventh round writes Anthony Odoardi of MLB.com.

--Gators outfielder Daniel Pigott received good news on Tuesday during Florida’s practice when Gators coach Kevin O’Sullivan told him he had been selected by the Reds in the ninth round writes the Daytona Beach News-Journal.

--Florida reliever Greg Larson joins a Shaq on the third day of the draft in going to the Red Sox. More from the FullCount blog on WEEI.com in Boston.
