Friday April 27, 2012 Former Gators CB Jenkins selected by Rams in second round of NFL Draft

There were a lot of questions about where former Gators cornerback Janoris Jenkins would be picked in the NFL Draft.

The answer came early in the second round Friday night when St. Louis used the seventh pick in the second round, 39th overall, to select the former UF standout.

Jenkins was considered a first-round talent but a plethora of off-the-field issues raised many questions about his character and whether he was worth a high pick.

The Rams were the first to say yes to Jenkins, who played at North Alabama last season after leaving UF due to a pair of marijuana arrests early in 2011.

In talking to reporters in St. Louis, Jenkins admitted his off-the-field issues didn't help his draft status.

"I'm pretty sure it hurt, but that's my past," he said. "I have a new chapter, and I'm ready to move forward."

Meanwhile, the Gators most likely to get drafted are running back Chris Rainey and defensive tackle Jaye Howard.

If Rainey or Howard don't get selected Friday during the second and third rounds, both are expected to be picked on Saturday in the final four rounds.
