Monday November 18, 2013 Gators to start Mornhinweg at QB; Roberson will not play

Updated: 1:11pm, November 18

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Redshirt freshman quarterback Skyler Mornhinweg will make his first career appearance for the Gators tonight against South Carolina.

Not only will Mornhinweg play, he is starting in place of injured Tyler Murphy. Murphy was unable to practice this week due to a sore throwing shoulder that has hampered him since the LSU loss Oct. 12.

Skyler Mornhinweg

Mornhinweg signed with the Gators in 2012 out of St. Josesph's Prep in Philadelphia. The 6-foot-2, 214-pound son of New York Jets offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg started the season third on the depth chart.

However, after starter Jeff Driskel suffered a season-ending broken leg against Tennessee, Murphy took over as the starter and Mornhinweg moved up to backup.

Murphy was on the field during pregame warm-ups but was unable to go. Florida coach Will Muschamp called Murphy's availability a "game-time decision."

Meanwhile, the Gators will be without junior starting cornerback Marcus Roberson.

Muschamp announced Roberson will miss tonight's game due to a violation of team rules.

Roberson has played in six games, recording 11 tackles and three prass break-ups.

For more on Mornhinweg's start, here is research provided by the UF sports communications office:
