Florida’s defensive depth will be tested once again on Saturday when the No. 18-ranked Gators play at Tennessee.

Gators coach Will Muschamp said Monday that linebacker Jelani Jenkins (thumb) and defensive back Cody Riggs (foot) will miss the game. Both players got hurt in Saturday’s 20-17 win at Texas A&M.

Jenkins suffered a fractured thumb on the Aggies’ opening drive and did not return. Muschamp said Jenkins underwent surgery Monday and is expected to be out approximately four weeks. Jenkins will be re-evaluated once the swelling from the surgery subsides to determine if he can return earlier than expected by playing with a protective pad on the thumb.

Meanwhile, Riggs suffered a fractured bone in his foot that does not require surgery according to Muschamp. He is also expected to miss approximately four weeks.

Running back Mike Gillislee (groin) and safety Josh Evans (shoulder) also left Saturday’s game due to injury but Muschamp said both players are fine and will practice today.

In other injury news, Muschamp said junior defensive end/linebacker Ronald Powell recently suffered a setback in his recovery from a torn ACL and is now likely to redshirt. Muschamp has spoken to Powell and his parents about the decision.

Powell suffered the injury in the spring game in April and was projected to be available to play by mid-October prior to the recent setback.

Other player updates: Muschamp said safety De’Ante “Pop” Saunders is expected to return Saturday after missing the first two games. Saunders could help fill the void created by Riggs’ absence. Offensive lineman Matt Patchan (pectoral strain) is out and TE Kent Taylor, who did not make the trip to Texas A&M due to an unspecified injury, is available according to Muschamp.
