Chandler Cooper played in just three games during her freshman year due to injury … enrolled at UF for the 2012 summer semester that began in July … one of five members of Clarksville High School’s senior class that signed to play basketball with an NCAA Division I school: Bashaara Graves (Tennessee) who was named the 2013 Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year, Tiasha Gray (Austin Peay), Tia Nicholson (Tennessee Tech) and Jessy Ward (Mississippi State) … enjoys fishing, hunting and spending time on the water … interested in a career in occupational therapy … her father Al Cooper played college hoops at David Lipscomb (Tenn.) University from 1986-90, when the school was competing at the NAIA level and averaged an NAIA all-time record 110.3 points per game during his senior year, a record that still stands … her father is a highly regarded boys basketball coach in the state of Tennessee and Chandler considers the “most influential person” in her basketball development, “always preaching fundamentals” … when her parents were trying to pick between two options for what her first name should be, her father continually repeated the phrases “Blake Cooper for Three” and “Chandler Cooper for Three” and selected the one that sounded the best … has been dribbling a basketball since she was four years old, even playing in a five-and-older league when her father fudged her birthdate … accompanied her father to the Canary Islands for two weeks when she was in fifth grade to help him run his basketball camps, serving as “the demonstrator” for all drills … the majority of her relatives are either coaches or principals, including her mother Melisse Williams, who is the head of Liberty Elementary School … the 17th Gator from the state of Tennessee … one of seven freshmen (four true freshmen) on Florida’s 2012-13 roster

 

Freshman Year (2012-13)

Played in only the first three games of the year and missed the last 34 because of a strained arch in her left foot ... injury occurred during practice prior to the Nov. 15 game at Florida State, when she played sparingly ... collected a game-high 4 steals against Georgia State (Nov. 11) ... scored her first career points off a steal at the top of the key, then dribbled length of court and sank the layup with 15:26 remaining in the first half against Fairfield (Nov. 9) ... nailed her first career 3-pointer with 5:54 remaining in first half against Fairfield ... started the second half against Fairfield

 

2012-13 STAT NOTES: 0 double-figure scoring games ... 1 three-pointer in two of three games she played ... scored in every game she played

 

 

High School

Graduated from Clarksville High School in May of 2012 … a four-year starter, she helped the Lady Wildcats compile a 127-13 record in her four years when she totaled 1,272 points (10.1 ppg) with a school-record 237 three-pointers (1.8 per game), in addition to 353 assists (2.8 pg), 296 steals (2.4 pg) and 273 rebounds (2.2 pg) … advanced to the state semifinals her senior year, guiding the team to a 37-1 overall record … appeared in 126 games, the third-most in school history, while her career point total ranked third … the 68 made treys during her junior year were the second-most in school while and the seven three-pointers in a game set the CHS all-time record … converted 36.3 percent (237-652) of her career three-pointers, including a 42.3 percent mark during her senior year (60-142) … won the 2012 Region 5-AAA championship title … advanced to the Class AAA State quarterfinals her junior and sophomore years and the semifinals her senior and freshman years … won the 10AAA district regular season and tournament titles each of her four years and captured the Region 5-AAA crown in 2011 and 2012 … named to the Ensworth Holiday Girls Shootout All-Tournament team in December of 2011 after helping CHS win the event … first started playing AAU ball during her sophomore year with Lady Shox and was coached by her father, Al Cooper … also played AAU hoops with the Tennessee Flight coached by Tom Insell … coached at Clarksville HS by Brian Rush.
