Andrea Vilaró Aragonés returned to Spain following the 2012 Spring semester and did not return to school ... was Florida’s only freshman competing during the 2011-12 season … goes by the nickname “V-la” … made her first-ever visit to the United States on August 17, 2011, when she left Barcelona to enroll at UF for the 2011 fall semester that began on August 22 … native language is Catalan; also fluent in Spanish, improving daily with English and learning Italian … UF assistant coach Murriel Page is fluent in Spanish after having played professional basketball in Spain for more than a decade … first-ever Gator from Spain, which is 4,642 miles from Gainesville … immediately caught the eye of UF head coach Amanda Butler during the 2010 summer, when Butler and Page were in Europe evaluating players on one of the U.S. junior teams … two of her most exciting events was graduating from high school and watching her favorite soccer team – FC Barcelona – win the 2011 Champions League … Coach Butler expressed that Vilaró Aragonés had great vision on the court with the ability to be the team’s best passer

 

Freshman Year (2011-12)

Appeared in 27 of 33 games … scored in 15 games … played double-figure minutes 14 times … missed the first three games as she was home in Barcelona due to the passing of her mother from cancer (Andrea flew home for a week in early October so her family could tell her about the illness. Andrea received a call from her father while she was in class on Nov. 3 that her mother took a turn for the worse and she needed to come home immediately. Andrea was able to spend a couple of days with her mother, who passed away Nov. 7. Andrea returned to Gainesville on Nov. 13 and played one minute in UF’s Nov. 14 game against Hampton) … posted back-to-back career scoring efforts against nationally-ranked opponents during the week of Feb. 13, when she scored eight on the road at #24 Vanderbilt (Feb. 16), before tallying 10 in the win against #18/15 Georgia (Feb. 19), when she hit a pair of big three-pointers that sparked Gator runs … also collected a career-high-tying four rebounds against the Lady Bulldogs … made her first-ever trip to the state of New York, when the team competed in the Courtyard LaGuardia Turkey Classic hosted by Long Island University, Nov. 25-26 … scored the first points of her collegiate career when she drilled a three-pointer in front of the Gator bench with 10:03 minutes remaining against Belmont (Nov. 29) … UF leader in assists in 2 games … 1 double-figure scoring game

 

International Experience

Sports an abundance of international playing experience, most recently serving as team captain of Spain’s 2011 Under 18 European Championship team; led her native Spain to a third-place finish at the event, dropping a heartbreaking 65-63 decision to eventual-champion Belgium in the semifinals before rocking Sweden, 85-69; named the “Best Forward” at the U18 European Championships (of the six individual awards handed out at the Eurobasket.com All-European Championships U18, Vilaró Aragonés was the only player not from the championship team); also earned a spot on the five-player First Team for the U18 European Championships, as she started each of Spain’s nine games and averaged 11.1 points – second-most on the team, while playing a team-high 25.6 minutes per game and collected 3.0 rebounds, dished 2.2 assists and snared 1.4 steals during the tournament … captained the 2010 U17 World Championships team that placed eighth while averaging 10.9 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists, shortly after helping Spain to the silver medal at the 2010 U18 European Championships in Slovakia … a member of Spain’s U17 women’s national team, Vilaró Aragonés led her squad during the 2010 FIBA U 17 World Championships with 10.9 points per game … during the 2009 U16 European Championships held in Naples, Italy, Vilaró Aragonés was the team captain of the gold-medal-winning Spanish squad and accepted the trophy on behalf of the team; also earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team  … also competed at the U16 and U18 European Championships and the U17 FIBA World Championships … 2008 U16 European Championships gold-medal-winning team in Katowice … additional teams include: 2005 Campeonato de España  de Selecciones Autonómicas (gold medal), 2006 Campeonato de España de Selecciones Autonómicas (gold medal), 2006 Campeonatode España Infantil Clubs: FC Barcelona (gold medal) and 2007 Campeonato de España de Selecciones Autonómicas (silver medal)

 

High School

Graduated from IES Joaquin Blume in May of 2011 … during her final three years, Vilaró Aragonés represented her school on Segle XXI, which competed in the second division of the Women’s Spanish League … helped the team during the 2010-11 season with a squad-leading 10.8 points per game (249 in 23 games), along with 3.7 rebounds (86 total), 41 assists and 33 steals … averaged 11.6 points in 2009-10, 8.8 points per game in 2008-09 and tallied three-year career averages of 10.5 points and 3.3 rebounds, with 81 assists and 95 steals in 77 games
