Kayla Lewis is UF’s leading returning rebounder for the 2013-14 season, collecting 5.5 per game last year … enjoyed a relatively healthy 2012-13 after injuries severely limited her play during her first two seasons at UF ... had a tough start to her collegiate career, as she was forced to the sideline following three games into her sophomore year (2011-12) after her freshman season (2010-11) was limited due to injury, as she missed 19 games ... is long, athletic and very versatile on the basketball court ... member of a number of championship teams, helping Southwest DeKalb High School capture the Class 4A Georgia state championship her final three seasons ... can dunk a tennis ball ... when she was in the fifth grade, drew a comic strip of herself that depicted her winning a college basketball national championship and being interviewed postgame by Dick Vitale ... her jersey was chosen to be in the 2010 Ring of Honor at the National Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame ... 2010 Gatorade Georgia High School Player of the Year ... 2010 Miss Georgia Basketball … earned a spot on the 2011 Southeastern Conference Freshman Academic Honor Roll ... 2013 SEC Academic Honor Roll ... measured during the 2012 fall with a team-best 32.5-inch vertical jump ... earned a spot on the 2011 and 2012 SEC Community Service Team … on pace to earn her Bachelor’s degree in Spring 2014

Redshirt-Sophomore Year (2012-13)

* Played in all 37 games

* Started the first nine games; and 21 overall

* Scored in every game except three (at Drexel, April 3; at Texas A&M, Feb. 14; vs. Arizona State, Nov. 25)

* On team ranked No. 4 for scoring, No. 2 for field goal percentage, No. 3 for rebounds, No. 3 for blocked shots, No. 4 for free throw percentage, No. 4 for made free throws and No. 5 for free throws attempted

* Ranked third on the team with nine possible three-point plays, hitting 4-of-9 free throws

* Played just two minutes in the season-finale at Drexel because of an ankle injury suffered the previous game

* Rolled her ankle with 15:59 left in the five-point WNIT quarterfinal win at James Madison (March 30) and did not return

* Her 12th double-figure scoring game of the year was a 15-point performance in the WNIT second-round win at Winthrop (March 26), where hit 6-of-10 shots from the floor and all three free throw attempts, while collecting five rebounds

* Topped the 350-career point plateau during the WNIT first round win at FIU (March 21), when she also collected a team-best eight rebounds to top the 250-career rebound mark in her postseason debut

* Calmly knocked down two free throws with 21.3 seconds remaining and gave UF a 73-68 lead and helped seal the win vs. FIU

* Posted the third double-double of the year with 14 points and 11 rebounds in the win at Alabama (Feb. 24), helping UF overcome a 13-point deficit with 10:17 remaining

* Had scored in 17 consecutive games until being shutout at Texas A&M (Feb. 14), where she missed all three attempts from the floor

* Scored her 300th career point during the win vs. Alabama (Feb. 3)

* Stepped up with the injury to senior star Jennifer George, collecting a team-best 10 rebounds with eight points at Georgia (Jan. 27), scoring a career-high 23 points with seven rebounds against Ole Miss (Jan. 24), collecting eight rebounds against South Carolina (Jan. 20), 11 rebounds with five points and two steals versus No. 9 Tennessee (Jan. 13) and scoring 12 points with nine rebounds at Mississippi State (Jan. 10) for her eighth double-figure scoring game of the year

* Drilled a big three-pointer midway through the second half during UF’s 11-0 run that helped the Gators erase a nine-point deficit in the win against LSU (Jan. 6) and finished with 10 points and six rebounds

* In the championship game of the Gator Holiday Classic against Central Michigan (Dec. 21), scored a career and game-high 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting, while collecting a game-high 10 rebounds (4 on the offensive end) for her second double-double of the year and her career

* Against Pacific (Dec. 7), came off the bench for the first time and responded with a career-high 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting while collecting six rebounds

* Had scored in 16 consecutive games that she has played before being shutout against Arizona State (Nov. 25), missing all three shot attempts

* Led UF with eight rebounds in win against Northern Iowa (Nov. 24), also scoring 11 points

* Only Gator who scored in double-figures in each of the first three games this season

* Tallied her first career double-double with 11 points and a career-high 12 rebounds versus Georgia State (Nov. 11)

* Against Fairfield shared team-high scoring honors of 12 points with Vicky McIntyre

* Collected a career-high four steals against Fairfield (Nov. 9, 2012)

* 12 double-figure scoring games ... UF’s leading scorer in 4 games ... leading rebounder in 11 games ... 3 double-doubles ... did not score in UF’s last game

 

Sophomore Year (2011-12)

* Received a medical redshirt the 2011-12 season

* Appeared in the first three games, starting one, before she suffered a stress fracture during the Florida State game (Nov. 17) and did not dress after the third game of the year

* Scored eight points in both of the first two games against Michigan and Stetson, before playing just 13 minutes against the Seminoles when she contributed four points and three rebounds prior to her injury

 

Freshman Year (2010-11)

* Appeared in the first 14 games and 16 overall

* Started the first six games of the year

* Did not play in 19 games because of injury, including the last 14

* Missed the first five SEC games because of a bone bruise on her right knee (occurred in Nov. 23 game vs. North Florida) and had been listed as day-to-day

* Diagnosed on Jan. 24 with a stress fracture in her right fibula and was sidelined

* SEC debut came against Kentucky (Jan. 20), when she played nine minutes and scored five points on 2-of-3 shooting

* Saw only eight minutes of court time at LSU (Jan. 23), scoring three points

* Scored in every game she has played except one (Navy)

* Collected at least one rebound in every game she played except two (Kentucky & LSU)

* At the time she was diagnosed with the stress fracture, ranked as UF’s seventh-leading rebounder (3.4 pg) and third-best guard on the glass (behind Bartley and Allen)

* Tallied a season-high 12 points in the win against Harvard (Dec. 7), shooting 3-of-4 from the floor and 5-of-9 from the free throw line

* Grabbed a career-high eight rebounds against Brown (Dec. 5)

* Came off the bench for the first time in the win against Old Dominion (Nov. 30) and she responded with a career-best and team-leading 12 points, hitting 6-of-10 from the field

* First double-figure scoring game was a 10-point performance at DePaul, when she had tipped in what appeared to be the game-winning shot, but it was waved off as it came just after the final buzzer

* First true freshman to start a season-opener since Sha Brooks in 2005-06

* First collegiate points were also the first points for the Gators during the 2010-11 season, as she converted one free throw at the 19:10 mark of the season-opening win against UCF

* Earned a spot on the SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll

* Four double-figure scoring games

 

High School

* Graduated from Southwest DeKalb (Ga.) High School in 2010, finishing academically among the top 10 percent of her class

* 2010 Georgia Gatorade Player of the Year

* Named 2010 Miss Georgia Basketball, as announced by the Atlanta Tipoff Club

* During four-year prep career tallied 1,349 points (13.8 ppg), 691 rebounds (7.1 rpg), 162 steals (1.7 spg), 151 assists (1.5 apg) and 140 blocked shots (1.4 pg), while shooting 52 percent from the floor

* Led SWDHS in 2010 to a successful defense of its Class AAAA State Championship, scoring 20 points in the final versus Northwest Whitfield at Gwinnett Arena en rout to the Panthers winning their third consecutive state title

* In the 2009 title game, totaled 16 points and 15 rebounds against Fayette County and was named MVP of the 2009 state tournament

* Her senior year averaged 14.5 points and 6.9 rebounds, after contributing 16.3 points and 9.1 rebounds her junior season

* 2009 and 2010 Georgia Sportswriters Association All-State Class 4A first team selection

* A 2010 Georgia Athletic Coaches Association North/South Senior All-Star Game selection and selected for Florida-Georgia All-Star game

* Coached at SW DeKalb by Kathy Richie-Walton, the 2009 Class AAAA Coach of the Year

* Played during the summer for Georgia Metros

* Her jersey was chosen to be in the 2010 Ring of Honor at the National Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame
