Brittany Shine announced her intentions to transfer following the 2011-12 academic year (went to California-Berkely) ... a high-energy player who can score and can create her own shots … truly enjoyed the game of basketball and that passion shines on the court … the third player from California to suit up for the Gators … began playing basketball at the age of four and was coached by her mother until her sophomore year in high school … attended countless WNBA Sacramento Monarchs games … contemplating a career as a professional basketball player and as a sports analyst for ESPN

Sophomore Year (2011-12)

Appeared in all 29 regular-season games, did not see the court during either SEC Tournament game but saw action in both NCAA Tournament games …  11 games with double-figure minutes … scored a season-high 14 points twice: versus Ole Miss (Feb. 5), when she hit 5-of-7 shots overall, including 4-of-6 three-pointers in 10 minutes of action; and versus Charleston Southern (Dec. 20), when she converted 3-4 from the field, with 2-of-3 from beyond the arc, along with 6-of-7 free throws … also tallied 13 points against Belmont (Nov. 29), hitting 6-of-13 shots … 3 double-figure scoring games (last 14 points vs. Ole Miss, Feb. 5)

 

Freshman Year (2010-11)

Appeared in 32 of 35 games, missing three due to injury (Old Dominion, Providence, Brown) after she sprained her left ankle during practice on Nov. 29 … exploded for 19 points on 8-of-17 shooting in 23 minutes in the double-overtime loss to Vanderbilt (Feb. 6); her bucket with 1:31 remaining in the first overtime gave UF a 90-88 lead … UF’s leading scorer in SEC games against Ole Miss and Tennessee (Jan. 13) … named the SEC Freshman of the Week for her performance during the games spanning Dec. 20-26, when she was voted MVP of the Gator Holiday Classic, the first individual event honor of her career, as she totaled 47 points and 10 assists while shooting 47.4 percent (18-38) from the field including 6-of-14 from the three-point arc in the two-game run to the team championship … against Alabama State (Dec. 20), made the most of her first collegiate start by scoring a career-high 28 points and became the first Gator this season to eclipse the 20-point plateau, besting her previous career high of 16 points set against Harvard on Dec. 7 … her 28 points were the most scored by a Gator since Sha Brooks poured in 29 points against Tennessee on Feb. 8, 2009; connected on 4-of-9 three-pointers, tying for the most by a Gator in a single game this season, and reached her career high by halftime with 19 points in the opening period … came back with renewed energy after missing three games from injury by scoring a career and game-high 16 points in the win against Harvard (Dec. 7), hitting 6-of-10 from the floor, including 2-of-2 three-pointers, while dishing three assists … led the Gator offense during the hard-fought five-point win against Charlotte (Nov. 15), as she scored her first collegiate points on a floating layup after driving down the middle of lane at the 14:06 mark; she followed with a three-pointer from the right side of the arc then tacked on two more buckets to cap a personal 9-0 run that gave Florida a 21-7 lead with 12:06 left in the first half; finished with 11 points in 11 minutes of playing time, scored nine consecutive points early and gave Florida a 14-point lead midway through the first half … six double-figure scoring games (most recently 19 points vs. Vanderbilt, Feb. 6)

 

High School

Graduated from Sacramento High School in June of 2010 … coached at SHS by Michelle Massari, whose assistant coach is U.S. Olympian, WNBA All-Star and former Gainesville, Fla., resident Ruthie Bolton, who Shine describes is a “godmother” to her … ranked as the 88th best player in the country according to ESPN HoopGurlz and as high as No. 60 by All-Star Girls Report … a 2010 McDonalds All-American Game nominee … her senior season, led SHS to a 28-7 record and averaged 16.4 points, 4.5 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 3.7 steals per game … led the Dragons to the 2010 Northern California Division III Championship game, where she scored 17 points in the title loss versus national No. 1-ranked Saint Mary’s … named the Sacramento Bee’s 2010 Player of the Year … All-NorCal First Team … named 2010 Metro League Player of the Year … 2010 Cal-Hi Sports All-State girls’ basketball Div. 3 team … four-time First Team All-Metro selection … the 2009 Dragons finished 23-10 overall, including 10-0 in the Metro Conference, as Shine led SHS with 14.9 points and 5.0 assists per game, in addition to 4.2 rebounds and 2.8 steals … scored 17 points for the victorious South team at the 33rd Optimist All-Star game, played April 4, 2010, in Antelope, Calif. … during the 2009 summer, Shine played with the AAA team Just Believe Sports (JBS) that won three major events under the direction of Sean Chambers … member of the Sacramento High School track team, anchoring the 4x100 and 4x400 relays, while running the 100m and 200m.
