Steffi Sorensen had a stellar two-year career at UF, making an immediate impact during her junior year as a walk-on (2008-09) and then being voted team captain her senior season (2009-10) … inched closer to her hometown of Jacksonville, located just 61 miles from Gainesville, after beginning her college career at Florida Gulf Coast University and transferring to Santa Fe College, citing “being closer to home” and “not wanting to sit out a year” as her reasons for transferring schools ... enrolled at UF for the Summer B session that began on June 30, 2008 … began her Gator career as a walk-on during the fall of 2008 semester and earned a full scholarship for the 2009 spring semester ... a bonafide 3-point shooting threat, leading her team from beyond the arc at all three of her college stops - including Florida during the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons … had an emergency appendectomy April 27, 2009 … 2010 Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll member … 2010 SEC Community Service Team member ... graduated from UF with a bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications – Management on Aug. 7, 2010

During her four-year collegiate career, Sorensen dropped in a total of 340 from beyond the arc, however, the first 179 of those do not count toward her NCAA Division I total. In two years suiting up for UF, Sorensen totaled 161 three-pointers, the fourth-best in program history. Sorensen canned 74 during her sophomore year at Santa Fe College in Gainesville, and drained a team-best 105 from beyond the arc her freshman season at Florida Gulf Coast University, which was competing in its final year on the NCAA Division II level.

Junior Year (2008-09)

Played in all 32 games, starting the final 31 of the season ... scored in every game except one and sank at least one 3-pointer in all but three games … held a streak of 20 consecutive games hitting at least one 3-pointer, which tied for the second-longest streak in program history … team leader from behind the 3-point arc, canning 78-of-199 for 39.2 percent, the fourth-highest percentage in the Southeastern Conference and the second-most 3-pointers per game (2.4) among all league players … UF’s top rebounding guard (5.2 rpg), and third overall on the team ... led the Gators in minutes played (976) and averaged (30.5 pg), ranked third for scoring (9.2 ppg) and third for assists (2.5 pg) ... during the 14-game SEC schedule, was UF’s third-leading scorer (9.8 ppg), second-leading rebounder (5.6 rpg), ranked second for assists (2.21 apg) and the leader from behind the 3-point arc (37.1%, 36-97) ... during UF’s two-game NCAA Tournament run, averaged 11 points and a team-leading 8.5 rebounds, as she collected a career-high 13 boards in the first-round win over Temple (March 22) to accompany her 13 points for her first career double-double ... also against Temple, recorded three assists and three steals in 38 minutes en route to being named ESPN’s Player of the Game ... versus Tennessee in the SEC Tournament quarterfinal game (March 6), tallied 10 points, hitting a pair of treys, one shot from inside the arc and two free throws, while tying her career of four steals and playing 38 minutes, also tying a season-long effort … in the regular-season finale at Georgia (March 1), tied her career-high of 15 points for the third time, hitting three 3-pointers and one free throw ... in the historic win vs. Tennessee (Feb. 8), knocked down a key 3-pointer off an inbounds pass from Sha Brooks to put the Gators back up by five with 2:08 remaining ... at Alabama (Feb. 5), tied her career-high with 15 points and nine rebounds, hitting 5-of-8 from the field and 4-of-5 from behind the arc helping UF shoot 11-of-17 in the game ... vs. Ole Miss (Jan. 25), tied for the team scoring lead, netting 13 points, while grabbing a career-high nine rebounds, just missing her first career double-double ... tallied 12 points vs. Georgia (Jan. 18), with all coming from 3-pointers, while grabbing a team-high seven rebounds, which tied her career-high ... huge performance in the win over No. 16/19 Pittsburgh (Dec. 21) when she scored a career-high 15 points, hitting 5-of-10 from the 3-point arc and dishing five assists without a turnover … earned a spot on the Junkanoo Jam All-Tournament Team (Bahamas, Nov. 28-29) after she averaged a modest 9.5 points during the two games, including a then-career-high 14 points against Southern Illinois, also tallying 6 assists, 6 steals and 10 rebounds, while recording countless defensive deflections … scored her first points in a Gator uniform against FGCU, where she began her collegiate career, knocking down a 3-pointer from the top-left arc at the 12:23 mark of the first half … walk-on during the fall semester and earned a full scholarship for the spring semester ... 14 double-figure scoring games ... 1 double-figure rebounding game ... 1 double-double.

 

Sophomore Year (2007-08)

Spent the 2007-08 season attending Santa Fe College in Gainesville, where she played under former Gator letterwinner Chanda Stebbins … appeared in 23 of 27 games, averaging 14.1 points (325 total points) and 6.9 rebounds (158), which ranked second and third for the Saints, respectively, while dishing a team-high 4.83 assists (111) per game and collecting 3.0 steals (68), ranking second … hit 45.0 percent (118-262) from the field overall and 40.2 percent (74-184) from the 3-point arc … sank a team-best 74 treys … also canned 71.4 percent (15-21) from the free throw line … helped SFC into the state playoffs and post a 20-8 final record … selected as a Mid-Florida Conference First Team performer.

 

Freshman Year (2006-07)

Began her collegiate career at Florida Gulf Coast (Fort Myers) University, which was competing in its final year on the NCAA Division II level … the Eagles were the No. 1-ranked team the entire season and reached the national championship game, where they lost to Southern Connecticut State and ended with a 34-1 record … hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with a minute remaining that sent FGCU to the title game … ranked second on the team in scoring (14.5 points), rebounding (5.2 rpg) and minutes played (24.8 mpg) … canned a team-best 105 three-pointers, connecting on 39.8 percent (105-264) from the arc, while hitting 44.7 percent overall … one of only two players who started all 35 games … a 2007 Kodak/WBCA All-America Team Honorable Mention for NCAA Division II, while being recognized as the 2007 All- Independents Collegiate Athletic Association’s (ICAA) Division II Freshman of the Year and a First Team All-ICAA Division II member … hit six 3-pointers in four different games … her 507 total points ranked third in program history for a season, while her 105 three-pointers shattered the previous record of 89 … 71 steals set a school record for a season and her 3-point shooting mark of 39.8 percent was the second-highest in a career.

 

High School

Graduated from Bartram Trail (Switzerland, Fla.) High School in June of 2006 ... recognized as the 2006 Miss Florida Basketball and the 2006 Class 5A Player of the Year … finished career as St. Johns County’s all-time leading scorer with 2,147 points … her senior year averaged 19 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, six steals and three blocks per game ... a McDonald’s All-America nominee … also earned three varsity letters as a member of the Bears’ golf and tennis teams, being named all-county in both sports … coached by Jenn Miller.
