Kerri Simpson was a solid defender who brought a feistiness to the court … enrolled at UF for the Summer B session, which began July 2, 2007, to begin coursework, as well as train and condition in Gainesville … at the end of the 2007-08 season opted to transfer to Middle Tennessee.
Freshman Year (2007-08)
Appeared in 15 games, logging 39 total minutes (2.6 per game) … did not suit-up against Florida Gulf Coast (March 24) or Saint Louis (Dec. 22) because of illness and did not accompany the team to Raleigh, N.C., for its WNIT Third Round game against N.C. State … totaled five points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals, while hit 1-of-6 field goals and 3-of-5 free throws … appeared in both SEC Tournament games, on the court for the final minute in the first round against South Carolina (March 6), when she managed to dish one of her three total assists on the year, and played the waning seconds against Tennessee (March 7) in the quarterfinals … played in three SEC games, totaling six minutes and connecting on her only field goal attempt against Georgia (Jan. 24), when she also went 1-for-1 from the free throw line and scored a season-high three points … played a season-high six minutes in the season-opener against Xavier (Nov. 9).
Graduated from Cleveland High School in May of 2007 ... during her standout career, graduated as the Lady Blue Raiders third all-time leading scorer, totaling 1,540 points, and finished fourth all-time with 250 steals, while her 516 rebounds ranked seventh all-time … her senior class compiled 112 victories (112-27) to become the winningest class in CHS history … her senior year helped Cleveland HS win its second consecutive District 5 tournament, defeating Bradley Central, 57-39 ... final season named All-District, as the Lady Blue Raiders advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2007 Class AAA Girls Basketball State Tournament ... listed among the ‘Top 12’ prospects from the state of Tennessee by Rick Bolus’ High Potential Basketball Recruiting Service ... Cleveland HS began 2007 ranked No. 11 in USA Today’s Super 25 girls basketball rankings after advancing to the Class 3A semifinals in 2006, when she contributed 15 points and eight rebounds per game and helped the Blue Raiders to a 28-8 record ... her senior year, the team finished No. 5 in the final state rankings, compiling a 32-3 overall record, as she averaged 10.5 points per game ... missed several games her junior year due to injury ... named TSWA AAA First-Team All-State in 2005 ... was a Street & Smith Honorable Mention All-American in 2004, 2005 and 2006, and made the 3A All-Region Team in 2005 ... represented the East team at the 2007 TACA East-West All-Star Basketball Weekend ... played during the summer with fellow Florida newcomer Ndidi Mudu for the Tennessee Flight Silver, which was recognized as being one of the top three travel teams in the country by Hoopgurlz.com ... according to Chris Hansen, National Director of Scouting for Women’s Basketball at HoopGurlz.com and Scout.com, Simpson is “a cat-quick guard who plays great on-ball defense. She has very good athleticism and can guard elite-level perimeter players. She’s aggressive and can get into the paint as well as knock down open threes” ... coached at Cleveland by Rachel Moore and Jennifer Wilson.
