Edwina Johnson

  • Video Coordinator

Edwina Johnson added the role of Video Coordinator to her resume when she arrived at the University of Florida prior to the 2007-08 season and continues those responsibilities in 2009-10.

She enters her third year with the Gators after spending 2006-07 at UNC Charlotte, serving as the 49ers’ Director of Basketball Operations under head coach Amanda Butler. Johnson worked with the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) in an intern capacity after serving as an assistant coach at Middle Georgia College in 2005. During the 2004-05 season, Johnson was a graduate assistant coach at her alma mater, the University of Montevallo in Alabama.

Johnson's primary responsibility revolves around everything and anything video-related. She coordinates all aspects of the Gators' film exchange and video editing, as well as oversees video projects for the team's website -- – which debuted in the Fall of 2007. Additionally, Johnson serves as the Gators’ liaison for community projects, co-camp director for the Gator’s summer basketball camps, and reconnects with the program's past by organizing alumni events.

Prior to joining the Charlotte staff, Johnson worked with the WBCA located in Lilburn, Ga. During her time with the national organization, Johnson organized and conducted the 2006 WBCA High School All-America Game presented by NIKE, held in Boston in conjunction with the Women's Final Four activities.

Once her internship with the WBCA was completed, Johnson signed up to work at the UNC Charlotte summer basketball camps in early June, when she first connected with Coach Butler. Johnson served as assistant to the camp director at the 49ers Team Jamboree and served as an assistant at Charlotte’s Individual Day Camp.  Johnson worked along side Butler and other Charlotte coaches in an effort to help each camper develop her skills through individual drills, small group instruction and competition.

The next month, Butler hired Johnson as the 49ers Director of Basketball Operations.

Before beginning her position with the WBCA, Johnson worked as an assistant coach at Middle Georgia College for the beginning of the 2005-06 season.

Johnson's initial experience came as a graduate assistant at Montevallo, where she helped her alma mater to a 16-13 overall record and an appearance in the Gulf South Conference Tournament.

A four-year letterwinner and starter at Montevallo, Johnson averaged 6.1 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists during her career. Johnson was the Lady Falcon’s third-leading scorer and captain during her senior season, contributing 9.2 points per game. She was the recipient of the Edithe Saylor Special Scholarship and an NCAA Degree Completion Scholarship, earning Gulf South Conference All-Academic Team honors, as well as a place on the President's and Dean’s lists. Johnson, who is a member of Spirit of Faith Christian Center of Gainesville, received her B.S. in Kinesiology and Education in 2004.
