Kellye Mowchan
  • Director of Women's Health

Kellye Mowchan has logged more overall years of service with the Gator athletics program than any other member of the hoops staff.

Mowchan, who is in her fourth year working as the head athletic trainer for the hoops squad, began her Gator career in August of 1986, donning the Orange & Blue as a member of the UF women's basketball team. The 5-foot-11 forward was named to the second team All-Southeastern Conference Freshman squad in 1987, starting 15 games as a rookie. Mowchan, who earned SEC Academic Honor Roll honors, redshirted the 1988 season after tearing the ACL in her left knee. She played in UF's first 11 games of the 1989 campaign, before reinjuring her knee.

She played sparingly during the 1990 season until suffering a career-ending knee injury. She did not return to the team for her final year of eligibility, which was which was former head coach Carol Ross' first season at Florida.

Mowchan was promoted to the position of Director of Women's Health in June of 1998, after having served as an athletic trainer at UF since 1993, when she worked primarily with the gymnastics and women's tennis teams. She currently oversees all of the women's athletics health issues, in addition to working directly with the women's basketball and tennis teams.

She served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at the university from 1991 to 1993, prior to receiving a full time position. During that time she gained experience working with the football and women's tennis teams, while assisting with the basketball, track, swimming and volleyball squads.

Mowchan pursued her career in athletic training, earning a B.S. in Exercise and Sport Sciences specializing in Exercise Physiology in May of 1991. She remained at UF and received her Masters of Exercise and Sport Sciences degree specializing in Athletic Training in August of 1993, while working with the football and women's tennis teams.

Mowchan worked in the basketball and gymnastics athletes care center at the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta, Ga. She has also volunteered for the Special Olympics and has worked as a lifeguard for the city of Gainesville.

The former Kellye Cargile from Jamestown, Tenn., married Mark Mowchan in July of 1991.
