Candace Cunningham … on pace to earn her degree in Criminal Justices in May of 2000 - one year ahead of schedule! She plans to enroll in law school for the fall of 2000, so her junior season was her final year with the team... added depth to the forward position... a great motivator with a good feel for the game… has shown great court sense… an intelligent player... brings a solid work ethic and a determined attitude... spent the summer of 1999 in Gainesville attending classes, developing her strength and conditioning and working with SPARC (Sexual and Physical Abuse Resource Centers)… took a mini vacation during the summer of 1998, traveling to St. Louis to spend time with her brother and learn to strut and model on a cat-walk.
Junior Year (1999-2000) Saw action in 13 games this season… 7-for-14 shooting from the floor… played a total of 53 minutes… during her one minute of action against Arkansas (March 25) in the WNIT semifinals, she hit her only three-point shot attempted and collected one steal... played two minutes in UF's WNIT quarterfinal win against Maryland (March 21), when she put back on offensive rebounds to score on her only field goal attempt on the night... scored a season-high four points in the season opener against Florida Atlantic (Nov. 19) and ended the regular season tying her career high during the win over Alabama (Feb. 27)… hit the first three-pointer of her career on Senior Day against Alabama (Feb. 27)… recorded a career-high two blocks against Florida Atlantic (Nov. 19).
Sophomore Year (1998-99) Appeared in 11 games this season, totaling 38 minutes played… netted a career-high 6 points vs. Western Michigan (Dec. 28) in just three minutes of action… hit 6-of-11 shots from the field…tied her career-high of three rebounds against Western Michigan (Dec. 28)… scored in a total of seven games this season… named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll after posting a 3.29 GPA in Criminal Justices.
Freshman Year (1997-98) Candace Cunningham saw action in 11 games her rookie season... blocked a shot in four consecutive games, finishing the year with five swats... hit a career-high four points in the win over Central Florida (Feb. 10)... played a total of 40 minutes and scored nine points... an invaluable member of the scout squad.
High School Cunningham starred on a Niceville High School squad that captured two consecutive District titles... coached at NHS by Edward Coleman... named the Eagles' Player of the Year twice and earned Most Improved honors... Cunningham recalls how her 10th grade team showed tremendous competitiveness and determination after enduring a mediocre regular season only to regroup and claim the first of two District titles... holds all-time school records for most rebounds and blocked shots... played for The Panhandlers AAU team... signed her letter of intent to play at Florida on Nov. 13, 1996 at 8:00 a.m... also competed at the middle position for the volleyball team.
