Tombi (TOOM-be) Bell is a quick, feisty player... an aggressive defender… fearless... provides an enthusiastic spark every time she takes the court... voted by her teammates as a tri-captain of the 2001 team ... one of the strongest members of the squad… best vertical jump on the team at 29.5 inches and quickest in the 40-yard dash, consistently clocking in under five seconds… the entire Bell family received matching tattoos during the summer of 1999 - the Chinese symbol for "family"… "Simba & Nala," the feline characters from The Lion King, are tattooed on her left shoulder blade... worked with the WNBA's Orlando Miracle operations department during the 2000 summer ... selected in the 2001 WNBA Draft on April 21, when the Minnesota Lynx made her the seventh pick in the third round (39th player overall).

Junior Year (1999-2000) Starting point guard all 34 games… led team in assists (204) and steals (84)… led SEC in assists and ranked fifth in steals per game… led UF in free throws attempted (158) - the third highest season total in UF history... second on the team in free throws made (107) - the fourth-highest season total… more than doubled her scoring and assist per game average from last year… scored 11 points and stole a career-high seven passes in the WNIT championship game at Wisconsin (March 29)... scored 13 points with nine assists in the 35 minutes of action in the WNIT second round game at Memphis (March 17)... recorded eight assists against Dayton (March 15) in the first round of the WNIT... her 204 assists ranked fourth all-time for assists in a season… her 84 steals was the third most in a season… scored a career-high 24 points against Tennessee (March 3) in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament, when she hit 7-of-8 from the floor and 10-of-14 from the free throw line, while dishing six assists… dished a career-high 12 assists in the win over Alabama (Feb. 27)… had not recorded consecutive double-figure scoring games until this season, when she strung together three straight performances: 10 at Auburn (Jan. 20), 18 at South Carolina (Jan. 23) and 17 vs. South Carolina (Jan. 30)… scored a career-high 18 points at South Carolina (Jan. 23), when she went 13-for-16 from the free throw line, setting UF's record for free throws in an SEC game... played a career-high 39 minutes twice: at Tennessee (Feb. 13) and vs. South Carolina (Jan. 30)… collected a team-high eight rebounds at Purdue (Nov. 26) and a team-high seven at Tennessee (Feb. 13)… received three postseason awards voted on by her teammates: The Stopper - player who played the best defense within the team's structure; Leadership Award - player who guided the team by example with good leadership, skill and enthusiasm and set a good example for others to follow; and Most Valuable Gator - player who was the most value to this team throughout the season… nine double-figure scoring games… six double-figure assist games.
Sophomore Year (1998-99) Played in 25 games, starting one… the lone start was at Baylor (Nov. 16) when she scored 10 points… missed eight games early in the season after spraining her right ankle during the team's shoot-around prior to playing Colorado State (Nov. 19)… first game back she played one minute at Alabama (Dec. 10), hitting one of two free throws with 1:14 remaining in the game to give UF a four-point lead, which it held on to for the upset win… was on the receiving end of a Tamara Stocks-elbow in practice Jan. 9 which fractured her nose and forced her to wear a protective mask for all but the final game of the year… had a career-high eight assists vs. Auburn (Jan. 14)… tallied three double-figure scoring games this season.
Freshman Year (1997-98) Scored in nine of the last 11 games... saw action in 25 games, playing a season-high 27 minutes at Alabama (Feb. 14)... during UF's three NCAA games she averaged 21.3 minutes, 7.7 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists, while hitting 9-of-10 free throws, including her last seven… scored seven points in 20 minutes of action during her NCAA Championship debut against Montana (March 14)... recorded three double-figure scoring games this season (10 points vs. Duke in NCAA Championship, 10 points vs. UCSB & sharing a team-high of 12 points vs. Alabama Feb. 14)... played 12 quality minutes in the SEC Quarterfinal win over Arkansas (Feb. 27), when she contributed four points, two rebounds and three assists... hit 6-of-11 three-point field goals, including three versus Alabama (Feb. 14) ... suffered a sprained ligament in her left (non-shooting hand) thumb during practice on January 2nd after colliding with teammate Dana Smith and was hampered for a number of weeks in practice and games... was counted on heavily as the backup point guard while starter Mo Hudson was recovering from ACL surgery... got her first career start versus Miami (Nov. 21) when she was checked into the game as a starter - by mistake - for Dana Smith… three double figure scoring games.
High School Named a first team Class 6A All-State performer by the Florida Sports Writers Association her senior season at Miami Norland High School and a second team selection as a junior... USA Today honorable mention All-USA Girls Team from Florida... 1997 first team All-State Tournament team... coached by Jim Wilson... posted three-year career numbers of 1,281 points (14.6 ppg), 660 rebounds (7.5 rpg), 501 assists (5.7 apg) and 121 steals (1.4 spg)... her No. 5 jersey was retired... the 1997 Gatorade Girls Player of the Year in the state of Florida... two-time Miami Herald first team All-Dade County honoree... a continually successful program, MNHS has won at least 20 games each of the last 10 years, including the 74-14 record logged during Bell's three years... played at Gulliver Prep in ninth grade, where she was the team's MVP... 1997 BCI All-American with Team Florida (AAU)... signed her letter of intent to play at Florida on Nov. 18, 1996 at 4:39 p.m... also competed as a middle blocker on the volleyball team and competed in the high jump, the long jump and 100-yard dash and the 400-relay for the track team.
