Post-Europe Player and Coach Quotes
Head Coach Billy Donovan
"My goal was to try to bring us closer together. I thought we've had good chemistry the last couple years, but I wanted to make that better. I feel like we got that accomplished. Anytime you go into a foreign country, were people don't speak English, they players have got to rely on each other -- to go and order food, to get around and to communicate. I think that's very good, we had a real good time."
"The trip was productive. We played against two very good teams. By no stretch of the imagination are we where we need to be, but I thought our guys played very well and very hard."
"I was pleased with the jump our guys made from one year to the next. I would say that Udonis Haslem, Teddy Dupay, Brent Wright and Major Parker did a good job stepping up to a leadership role, they did a good job keeping our team together while we were over there."
"Although we played three teams who weren't very good, we played three in a row - two of those teams we were the two good teams. This was a playing situation unlike that in the states, where you arrive the day before the game. Sometimes we'd have four or five-hour bus rides and then have to play a game. There was a lot of adversity and a lot of things we had to deal with. It was good for me because it gave me a chance to explain to these guys that there are no excuses. The latter part of the trip was very, very difficult."
"I'm excited. I think, with our team this year, we've got to be extremely disciplined, to be a good execution team. We may not be as deep as we were last year, but this year we have a very experienced team, so we need to take our experience and utilize that. I'm hoping our experience will trickle down to our younger guys, helping them grow as the season moves on."
"The beaches were beautiful. We went to Nice and had a lot of fun. It was tough because a lot of the people didn't speak English so that meant good bonding for the team."
"I'm definitely ready for the season to start now. We've got a lot of things to do before we set foot on the court to be a championship caliber team, but we're all working for that."
"There were a couple of stretches that felt like we were playing in the NBA - bus ride to the airport, long flight, bus ride to the hotel, home for an hour, pre-game meal and then a bus ride to the gym. There was a lot of adversity - we took it in stride and it was a good experience for us."
"This was good from a team outlook. We always have done things together on the court, but to do things off the court - sightseeing, jetskiing, just going out and walking around - that stuff is always good."
On his shoulder
"It was different because the teams there have bigger players, but they aren't as athletic as our big guys. It really is a different brand of basketball over there. It was good to get a taste of something new, though."
