Darren Hertz marks his eighth season as Assistant to the Head Coach after spending the previous two seasons as the Gators men's and women's basketball program's full-time video coordinator. Hertz was an assistant coach at PK Yonge High School in Gainesville during the 1999-2000 season, helping the school to the District Championship on a squad that included former Georgia Southern star Terry Williams. He was the head coach of Team Mercy Hospital in the Pharmed Men's Collegiate Summer Basketball League in Miami, Fla., in 1997 and 1998 and earned "Up and Coming Coach" honors in the latter of the two seasons.
A native of Miami, Hertz was an All-Dade County point guard his senior year at Miami Killian High School. During his senior season he was backcourt mates with current Utah Jazz guard Raja Bell. Hertz graduated from the University of Florida in 1997 with a degree in sociology before getting his Master's in sport management in 2001. He was an instructor for the University of Florida's College of Health and Human Performance from 1999-2001 while earning his Master's degree.
