AS A FRESHMAN IN 2002-03 - Made a tremendous splash, scoring 26 points in his debut on national television, leading the Gators to a victory over Louisiana Tech in the first round of the Preseason NIT on ESPN… The total was the third-highest opening night output by a freshman in UF history… Followed that with a 20-point performance in the second round against Eastern Illinois, helping him earn both National Player of the Week and SEC Player of the Week… Started all 33 games his freshman season, tops among first-year players in the Southeastern Conference… Finished second in the SEC in three-point accuracy behind teammate Matt Bonner, connecting on 60-of-139 treys on the year (.432)… Third on the team in scoring at 12.2 points per game… Shot .467 from the floor overall for the season, hitting 128-of-274 attempts… Seventh in the SEC in free throw percentage at .739, hitting 88-119… His 119 free throws were the most attempts by any Gator in 2002-03… Clutch with the game up for grabs, he got to the line more than any other Gator in the game's final three minutes, hitting 33-of-39 with under three minutes remaining in regulation (.846)… Second on the Gators in assists with 101, just 12 off the UF freshman record… Led the Gators in assists on 12 occasions and his 46 assists during SEC play were tied for the team lead… Second in steals as well with 50, he ranked ninth in the SEC in steals per game with 1.52… Came up with season-highs of 33 points , 11 rebounds and 44 minutes vs. Miami in the Orange Bowl Classic… Added five assists and earned Orange Bowl Classic MVP honors… Also set season-highs in free throws made and attempted with a 14-of-14 performance, the third highest total in UF history without any misses… His 33 points were an Orange Bowl Classic record and the most by a Gator freshman since Vernon Delancy set the UF freshman mark with 38 on Jan. 24, 1981… Highest point total overall by a Gator since Greg Stolt dropped 33 on South Florida on Dec. 10, 1996… Despite getting a cortisone shot in his left ankle before the game, he calmly delivered on 5-of-6 free throws in the final two minutes against Maryland, helping the Gators snap the Terrapins 87-game home winning streak against non-conference competition, a streak that dated back to 1989… Scored in double-figures in 17 games overall (26 vs. La.
