2014 SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll

 

AS A FRESHMAN (2014): Earned a spot on the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll…Made three appearances totaling eight innings and was 0-0 with a 2.25 earned run average…Worked a season-high four innings in the series opener at No. 19 Kentucky, allowing six hits and two runs, with a personal-high three strikeouts…Fired three shutout frames and had a pair of strikeouts in the first meeting with Illinois…Debuted in the second encounter at No. 17 Miami (FL), permitting one hit and a walk in an inning of work against the Hurricanes.

 

HIGH SCHOOL: Right-handed pitcher from St. Thomas Aquinas High School who played for head coach Troy Cameron…Named a second-team All-American by Louisville Slugger after going 8-3 with a 1.72 ERA and 84 strikeouts in 61 innings in 2013…Also named first-team All-Broward County by the Miami Herald and the High School Baseball Network…Helped the Raiders to the Class 7A state semifinals…Rubio worked 6.2 innings, allowing five hits and striking out four Haines City batters, but Aquinas dropped a 2-1 decision at the final four…Was a third-team Class 8A-6A All-Broward selection by the Miami Herald as a junior, when he was 6-0 with a 1.85 ERA in 10 appearances, including six starts spanning 34 innings…Member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society.

 

SUMMER: Joined Gator teammate Mike Fahrman on the Olean Oilers of the New York Collegiate Baseball League last summer…Was 5-1 with a 2.28 ERA in nine games, all starts…Tied for the league lead with five complete games and was sixth with 50 strikeouts in 67 innings…Represented the Western Division in the NYCBL All-Star Game…Closed the season with a seven-inning shutout at Niagara in which he had seven K…Went the distance in a 6-5 setback to Hornell…Crafted a three-hit shutout against the Wellsville Nitros…Posted back-to-back complete-game efforts in wins over Rochester (9.0 IP, 2 R, 7 H, 8 K) and Oneonta (9.0 IP, 3 R, 8 H, 5 K)…His first victory of the campaign came at Oneonta, when he totaled a season-high 11 strikeouts over seven frames.
