AS A FRESHMAN (2014): Chosen as a second-team Freshman All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA)…One of three Gators named to the SEC All-Freshman Team… Batted .264 with 32 RBI, 19 walks, 18 runs, six doubles, four homers and two triples in 60 games…Started 58 games for the Gators, 30 as the designated hitter, 24 at first base and four at third base…Hit .290 in SEC play, was second on the club with 23 RBI and all four of his round-trippers during the season came in league action…Drove in a pair of runs as UF eliminated No. 22 Mississippi State from the SEC Tournament…Blasted a three-run homer in the first meeting at Tennessee and was 2-for-5 in the extra-inning victory over the Vols…Went 3-for-4 and tallied four RBI as the Orange and Blue finished off a weekend sweep of No. 20 Alabama with a 13-3 triumph…Delivered a two-run double in the third inning, an RBI single in the fifth and a solo shot in the seventh…Notched a career-high five RBI and was 3-for-4 in the 7-1 win over Missouri on April 25 that gave the Gators the SEC lead…Was a homer shy of the cycle after a two-run single in the second, an RBI triple in the sixth and a two-run double in the eighth…Went 2-for-4 with an RBI single in the 7-1 victory at FGCU…Scored twice in the shutout of No. 1 Florida State in Tallahassee…Hit .538 (7-for-13) in the weekend series at No. 19 Kentucky, with a three-run homer in the finale that brought the visitors within 9-8…Moved the Gators in front of No. 4 LSU with a two-run single in the fourth inning, leading the way to a sweep of the Tigers…Collected a pair of hits as UF downed Texas A&M in game one at Blue Bell Park…Opened the scoring in the SEC opener with an RBI grounder against Arkansas…Went 3-for-4 in the second meeting with Illinois…Roped his first career triple and was 2-for-5 as the Gators edged No. 17 Miami (FL), 6-4…Lofted a sacrifice fly in the third inning against North Florida for his first RBI as a Gator…Started at designated hitter on opening night versus Maryland and was 1-for-2 with a run scored.

 

HIGH SCHOOL: Infielder from Plant High School who played for head coach Dennis Braun…Three-time member of Tampa Bay Times’ All-Suncoast Team…Alonso was a second-team Preseason All-American and was named to the Florida All-Region First Team by Rawlings/Perfect Game prior to his senior year…Ranked No. 19 in the state of Florida and No. 2 at third base in the Class of 2013 Final Rankings from Perfect Game…Rated No. 116 nationally and No. 7 among third basemen from Perfect Game…Turned in a career high school batting average of .460 (116-for-252) and drove in 99 runs…Sported an on-base percentage of .517…Almost 47 percent of his hits went for extra bases, as Alonso had 36 doubles, 17 homers and a triple…Hit .387 as a senior, with 24 runs, 22 RBI, nine doubles and seven homers…Named to the Tampa Tribune’s All-Hillsborough County team and collected his team’s leadership award… Received the 2013 Wade Boggs Athletic Achievement Award, based upon outstanding athletic skills, exceptional academic achievement, good sportsmanship and exemplary conduct…Other former Gators who have earned the honor include Tommy Toledo (2007) and Alex Panteliodis (2008), while Preston Tucker (2008) and Daniel Gibson (2010) were honorable mention recipients…Was invited to the USA Baseball 18-U National Team trials in the summer preceding his final prep season…Led all public school hitters in 2012 with a .485 clip…Also had 24 RBI, 11 doubles, six homers and a .912 slugging percentage that season…Before transferring to Plant before his junior year, Alonso set single-season school records at Jesuit High School in hits (54) and RBI (53)…He batted .495 as a sophomore, with 16 doubles and four homers for the Class 4A state finalist Tigers, driving in 16 runs in eight postseason games…Was chosen to MaxPreps Sophomore All-American team in 2011…Two-time winner of team’s best hitter award…Member of the National Honor Society at Plant.
