AS A FRESHMAN (2013): Named to the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll…Played 44 games in his rookie season and made 41 starts (26 in center field, 13 at shortstop, two as the Gators’ designated hitter)…Entered the season as Florida’s starting shortstop and suffered a broken finger on March 3 against Miami (Fla.) that kept him from playing the field until April 7 at Mississippi State, when he returned to the lineup in center field…Tied for second on the squad with a .300 batting average, with 24 runs, 18 RBI, 15 walks and five doubles…Was 7-for-10 on the basepaths…Registered 13 multiple-hit outings…Hit .282 in 23 SEC games, scored 10 runs, drew 10 walks and totaled eight RBI…Had a single in each of Florida’s NCAA Tournament games against Austin Peay and Valparaiso…Was 2-for-5 with an RBI single and a run in the regular-season finale at Georgia…Batted a team-leading .417 (5-for-12) over the three games with Auburn, including 3-for-5 in the final contest…Chipped in with a couple of singles, a walk, a run and a stolen base in the victory over Florida Atlantic...Turned in a 3-for-5 effort in the rout of Florida A&M in which he drove in three runs on a two-run double in the third inning and a sacrifice fly in the eighth and also scored three runs…Went 2-for-4 with a theft and scored in the opener at No. 3 LSU…Batted .364 (4-for-11) in the Tennessee series and delivered an RBI single as part of the four-run third inning in the opener…Drove in a career-high four runs in the Gators’ 12-1 triumph over USF that featured a three-run triple in the sixth stanza…Began the series at Missouri by going 3-for-6 and then drew a career-high three walks in the second encounter with the Tigers…Came through with a two-run single into right field during UF’s 10-run sixth-inning explosion against No. 8 South Carolina that completed a series sweep of the Gamecocks…Lofted a sacrifice fly in the third and added an RBI double in the fifth of the Gators’ 4-3 victory at No. 7 Florida State…Batted leadoff and drew his first career start in center field at No. 17 Mississippi State and was 2-for-5 with an RBI single and a run scored to help the Orange and Blue take the finale…Went 3-for-6 and had a run-scoring single to complete the series with FGCU at McKethan Stadium…Had a then-career-high three hits in his first road game at UCF…Was 3-for-11 (.273) with three runs and a couple of walks during the opening series with Duke…Was 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and scored twice as UF captured the rubber game of the series with a 16-5 win…Singled to right field in his collegiate debut, when he started at shortstop and hit second.

 

SUMMER: Played for the Falmouth (Mass.) Commodores of the Cape Cod League last summer…Had a .193 average in 32 games, with 19 runs, 11 walks and 10 RBI…Was 11-for-16 on stolen-base opportunities and had three doubles, one triple and a homer…The two-run shot came off of Gator teammate Bobby Poyner and Martin was 2-for-3 in the contest…The Commodores tied for first in the West and fell to eventual champion Cotuit in the playoffs.  

 

HIGH SCHOOL: Infielder from Bloomingdale High School who played for head coach Kris Wilken…Drafted in the 38th round of the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft by the Seattle Mariners with the 1,151st overall pick…Was a third-team Preseason All-American by Rawlings and named to the Florida All-Region First Team…Mentioned as a top player on ESPN High School’s Florida All-State Baseball Team prior to his final prep campaign…Ranked No. 21 in the state of Florida, No. 3 among middle infielders in the Class of 2012 Final Rankings from Perfect Game…Hit .438, the fifth-highest average among Hillsborough County public schools, with 25 runs, 21 stolen bases, 19 RBI, six doubles and a pair of triples as a senior…Was an all-state selection in Class 8A as the Bulls finished 22-4…Picked up first-team recognition on the Tampa Bay Times’ All-Suncoast Team and was a member of Tampa Bay Tribune’s All-Hillsborough County team…First-team All-Hillsborough County by the Tampa Bay Times and first-team Western Conference choice for the Federal Division…Named to the Saladino All-Tournament Team and was part of Hillsborough County’s Parade of Athletes… Finished with a career batting average of .340 and was named his team’s best hitter in his final two seasons…Earned a prestigious Scholar-Athlete Award and a $500 scholarship as Bloomingdale’s male representative at an event held in Tampa…Appeared on the ballot for the Mr. Baseball Award presented by the Florida Dairy Farmers… Also played in the 6th Annual Tampa Bay High School All-Star Classic held at Tropicana Field, home of the Tampa Bay Rays…Earned Most Valuable Player honors at the Florida Athletic Coaches Association All-Star Game after going 4-for-5 with a triple and three stolen bases over two games…Hit .366 with 19 runs, 17 RBI, nine stolen bases, seven doubles, and a slugging percentage of .577 during his junior campaign…Named the MVP of the 2010 World Wood Bat Association Championships in Jupiter, Fla., when he scored a tournament-high seven runs in seven games, including the only run in the final round…Martin’s team, Chet Lemon’s Juice, was the co-champion of the 85-team final event…Batted .308 with 24 runs as a sophomore in 2010…Member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta at Bloomingdale.
