AS A JUNIOR (2013): Was sidelined for the entire season and received a medical redshirt…Taken by the Washington Nationals in the  37th round of the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft at No. 1,126.

 

AS A SOPHOMORE (2012): Appeared in 14 games, with 10 starts, and was 4-0 with a 3.51 earned run average…Now sports a 12-1 (.923) career pitching record…Totaled 20 strikeouts in 33.1 innings…Was 1-0 in SEC action with a 3.57 ERA in 17.2 innings…The righty started five of the six SEC games he pitched in…Earned the victory in game two of the NCAA Gainesville Super Regional against No. 11 NC State that sent the Gators to the College World Series for the third-straight year…Struck out two of the three Georgia Tech hitters he faced in the Gainesville Regional finale…Started the SEC Tournament semifinal against Vanderbilt but was not involved in the decision…Matched a season high with a five-inning stint in the regular-season finale at Auburn…Limited No. 3 Kentucky to one run on six hits over 4.2 innings…Notched the second win over Bethune-Cookman with four shutout innings while working on a pitch count…Picked up the win in the decisive third game against Georgia coming out of the bullpen in an SEC game for the first time in his career…Returned to the mound on April 3 at North Florida and retired the side on eight pitches in the first inning with a pair of strikeouts…Defeated No. 16 Cal State Fullerton in his first start of the season with five innings in which he registered two strikeouts and yielded two runs.

 

AS A FRESHMAN (2011): Chosen as the National Freshman Pitcher of the Year by Perfect Game and was named to the organization’s Freshman All-American team...Also earned Freshman All-American recognition from Baseball America, Louisville Slugger and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA)…A member of the SEC’s All-Freshman Team, Whitson held a permanent spot in the Gators’ weekend rotation and finished 8-1 with a 2.40 ERA...Tied Hudson Randall for the top position with 19 starts, led the club with 92 strikeouts in 97.1 innings and limited opponents to a .235 batting average…Collected SEC Freshman of the Week honors on April 25 after a seven-strikeout performance in a career-high 6.2 innings versus Alabama and was 4-0 with a 2.56 ERA in conference games…In 10 SEC starts, the righty posted victories over Tennessee, Alabama, Ole Miss and Kentucky…Was 1-1 with a 1.89 ERA in four NCAA Tourney starts, notching 18 strikeouts and permitting four walks in 19 innings…Drew the starting assignment in game two of the CWS Championship Finals and was on the short end to South Carolina despite allowing one earned run on four hits over 4.2 innings…Earned a no-decision in Florida’s 3-1 victory over Vanderbilt in Omaha in which he yielded four hits and one run over 4.2 innings, with five strikeouts and a walk…In his NCAA Tourney debut on June 3, Whitson did not permit any runs or walks and was the winning pitcher as the Gators overpowered Manhattan, 17-3…Worked 5.1 innings in the second SEC Tournament matchup with Georgia, giving up five hits and two runs, but was not part of the decision…Earned the victory with five innings of one-run ball as UF clinched a share of the SEC regular-season title against Kentucky…Fired six shutout frames and registered four strikeouts in the 7-2 triumph over Ole Miss that sealed the Orange and Blue’s first sweep of the Rebels since 2002…Notched six K in five scoreless innings to earn the win as Florida swept Tennessee…Limited South Carolina to one run on two hits and had five punchouts in the series finale…Went five innings in game three with Miami (Fla.) and yielded two runs on seven hits with four K…Claimed his second start by holding Boston College to one run on five hits and totaled five strikeouts in 5.1 innings…Had a spectacular collegiate debut in which he registered nine strikeouts, gave up one walk and allowed just a first-inning single to USF over five scoreless frames to earn the win.

 

SUMMER: Appeared in two games for the Orleans Firebirds of the Cape Cod League and was 0-0 with a 2.70 ERA in 2012…Had five strikeouts and zero walks in 3.1 innings.

 

HIGH SCHOOL: Right-handed pitcher from Chipley High School who played for head coach Andy Compton…Selected in the first round of the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft by the San Diego Padres with the ninth overall pick…Rated No. 2 in the state of Florida according to Prospectswire.com…Ranked No. 8 in the Class of 2010 Final Rankings from Perfect Game, No. 3 in the Sunshine State…Was No. 3 on Baseball America’s list of Top 100 High School Prospects and  No. 15 on the publication’s list of Top 100 Amateur Players…First-team choice on Rawlings’ Preseason All-America Team…Named a first-team All-American by Baseball America and was first-team all-state in Class 3A after going 7-3 with a 0.62 earned run average and a single-season school-record 123 strikeouts in 55 innings…Allowed just 16 hits and issued 15 walks…Established a school mark with 19 K in a 2-1 triumph over Walton High School… Member of the 2009 USA 18-U National Team that brought home the gold medal from the IX COPABE “AAA” Pan American Junior Championships in Venezuela…Registered nine strikeouts over five innings during a 19-0 rout of Colombia… Participated in the AFLAC All-American High School Game at PETCO Park in San Diego in August 2009 after taking part in the Under Armour Classic at Wrigley Field earlier that month…Compiled a 6-4 record and a 1.49 ERA with 73 strikeouts in 42 innings as a junior.
