AS A REDSHIRT FRESHMAN (2012): Saw action in 17 games and batted .273 (3-for-11) with four runs…Delivered a pinch-hit single into right field to begin the eighth inning of the second game at Auburn…Had a leadoff single in the 11th stanza against North Florida and slid home with the winning run on Mike Zunino’s double down the left-field line…Scored as a pinch runner in the ninth inning of the series opener at No. 3 Kentucky on an RBI single by Justin Shafer…Came home on Daniel Pigott’s run-scoring single in the SEC lid-lifter versus Vanderbilt…Came through with a pinch-hit RBI single against Florida A&M for his initial hit and RBI as a collegian…Scored as a pinch runner during the five-run ninth-inning explosion as the Gators swept Miami (Fla.).

SUMMER: Competed for the Wilmington (N.C.) Sharks of the Coastal Plain League last summer…In 22 games, all starts, Mitchell batted .182 with 16 walks, 11 RBI and nine runs…He was 6-for-7 on the basepaths and did not commit any errors in 38 chances.

HIGH SCHOOL: Outfielder from Plant High School who played for head coach Dennis Braun…Was a first-team All-Western Conference recipient in 2009 and 2010 and was honorable mention All-Hillsborough County three-straight years…Batted .369 in his final prep season and set a single-season school record with 22 runs scored…His 31 hits ranked second and his five doubles ranked fourth for the Panthers in one year…Was chosen as the squad’s Rookie of the Year in ’08, when he made second-team Western Conference in the American Division…Played for the All-American Prospects’ 16-U team that won the 2008 AABC Mickey Mantle World Series…Member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Social Studies Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Key Club and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at Plant High School.
