AT PALM BEACH (2007-08): Competed at Palm Beach Community College for two seasons under head coach Alex Morales…Batted .332 last spring and had a .447 on-base percentage out of the leadoff spot…Tabbed the Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Year for the second-straight time…Was named a 2008 Preseason All-American by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA)…In his initial year at Palm Beach, Mooney earned the NJCAA Division I Easton Defensive Player of the Year Award and Region 8/Gulf District Defensive Player of the Year honors…In addition, he was chosen to the inaugural Rawlings Gold Glove team and achieved All-America recognition from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and Rawlings Sporting Goods…Played in 40 games at shortstop for the Panthers, recording 108 assists and 59 putouts and committed just five errors…Finished the season with a .971 fielding mark, batted .285 and scored 37 runs…PBCC went 45-12 and ranked as high as third in the nation after being rated first in the state of Florida for eight-consecutive weeks.

 

HIGH SCHOOL: Played at Royal Palm Beach High School for head coach Carlos Gonzalez…Earned honorable mention all-area in 2006…Named to the All-Tournament Team of the Orlando National Baseball Classic and participated in the Dick Howser Palm Beach County Senior All-Star Game following his final season.
