AS A FRESHMAN (2009): Earned a berth on the SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll…Saw time in 18 games and started four times at designated hitter and twice at catcher...Was 3-for-30 (.100) with five runs on the year...Caught the ninth inning of the NCAA Gainesville Regional final, as Billy Bullock closed out Miami (Fla.)...Fouled out in the ninth inning in the second meeting with Arkansas at the SEC Tournament...Started behind the dish at Stetson for the Gators, going 0-for-2 with a walk... Saw action in game two at Auburn and was 1-for-2 with a single and a walk…Also scored twice in the win over the Tigers that evened the series…Started at DH and was 1-for-4 at the plate with his first collegiate home run in the 16-3 win over UCF...Drew a walk as a pinch hitter during the epic ninth-inning comeback against Alabama in which Florida sent 11 batters to the plate and scored five runs with two outs...Scored the first run of his career in the 5-3 win over UNF after reaching on an error...His first career hit was a bunt single in the first inning in the 5-4 edging of Florida State...First collegiate start came in the second matchup with Eastern Michigan on Feb. 25…McMahan had come in as a defensive replacement in the initial meeting with the Eagles.

 

SUMMER: Was a member of the 2009 Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox, a team which claimed the Eastern Division of the Cape Cod League and boasted the top regular-season mark…Started all 23 games he played behind the plate and batted .241 (19-for-79) with 13 runs, eight RBI, four doubles and three homers in the regular season…McMahan also started two of the three playoff games at catcher for the Red Sox.

 

HIGH SCHOOL: Catcher from Bishop Moore Catholic High School in Orlando who played for head coach Dave Wheeler…Chosen in the 30th round of the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft by the New York Yankees with the 920th pick…Earned first-team all-state recognition in his final season, when he batted .330, drove in 45 runs, drew 40 walks and belted seven homers…Also collected all-county honors, was his team's Most Valuable Player and earned the Head Coach's Award…Chosen as second-team member of the Rawlings Preseason All-American Team…The Hornets were the 2007 Florida state champions in Class 4A…An honorable mention all-state selection, McMahan batted .380 with 27 runs batted in and eight home runs as a junior…Listed among the 2008 Top 100 High School Prospects by Baseball America and was No. 56 in the Class of 2008 Final Rankings from Perfect Game…Invited to the East Coast Professional Showcase and participated in the Florida Diamond Club Showcase.

 

PERSONAL: Benjamin Francis McMahan was born Oct. 14, 1989, in Cincinnati, Ohio…His parents are Michael and Sally McMahan…Has three younger brothers: Joey (14), Patrick (12) and Jack (11)…Enjoys fishing, playing golf and table tennis…Decided to attend Florida because it gives him a good opportunity to develop on the field and in the classroom…Majoring in business administration.
