AS A SOPHOMORE (2007): Delivered a pinch-hit double and scored in the 20-3 victory over George Washington on March 4.
AT DUKE (2005-06): Attended Duke for two years and played for the Blue Devil baseball team during the 2005 season…Played in 21 games, with nine starts, as Duke finished 14-39 overall and 5-25 in the Atlantic Coast Conference…Batted .238 (10-for-42) with six walks, four runs, three RBI and two doubles…Went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in and a double in the opener of a weekend series against Florida State.
SUMMER: Played for the Altamonte Springs Snappers of the Florida Collegiate Summer League in 2007, where he started 25 of the 26 games in which he appeared…The Snappers advanced to the league's title game but fell to the Leesburg Lightning, 6-0…Hit .189 (14-for-74) with 15 walks, 10 RBI, nine runs, five doubles and one homer…On July 17, Smith was chosen as his team's player of the week, when he went 5-for-10 (.500) and sported a .538 slugging percentage in that stretch.
HIGH SCHOOL: Earned four letters in baseball at Lake Brantley High School for head coach Mike Smith, his father…Earned all-state and All-Central Florida recognition as a senior and was a two-time all-conference honoree... Batted .408 as a senior... His American Legion team won the State Championship in 2003...Also lettered twice in football, earning second-team all-conference honors as a quarterback…A dual threat, Smith threw for 1,109 yards and 16 touchdowns and ran for 1,069 and 15 scores.
