AS A SENIOR (2008): Achieved Academic All-SEC status for the first time…Joined Cole Figueroa as the only Gators to play all 58 games and made 52 starts…Started at third base in 40 games, second base five times, first base four times and designated hitter three times...Hit .284, totaled 42 RBI, scored 32 runs, drew 24 walks and was 9-for-10 in stolen-base opportunities...Had six doubles, four homers and a triple...Had a .252 average in SEC play, with 19 RBI and 14 runs...Committed 17 errors, tied for the most on the club...Batted .333 (2-for-6) at the NCAA Tallahassee Regional and led the Gators with five RBI…Drove in three runs against Florida State, courtesy of a sacrifice fly and a two-run single…Provided UF with a 4-1 lead over Tulane in the opening round on a two-run homer in the sixth…Tied for third on the squad at the SEC Tournament with a .375 (3-for-8) average...Went 1-for-4 against South Carolina after a 2-for-4 opener in the loss to Vanderbilt...Was the hero of the finale during the series with Vandy, stroking a two-out, walk-off single in the 11th to score Figueroa with the winning run from second base...Finished 3-for-10 (.300), with all three hits coming on Saturday...Was 2-for-3 and scored twice in the win over USF...Also drove in a run with a double in the seventh inning...Was 2-for-5 against Bethune-Cookman and had an infield RBI hit in the six-run sixth...Was 3-for-9 (.333) with an RBI in Columbia...Had his eighth multiple-hit performance with two singles in game one...Went 3-for-10 (.300) in the series triumph over Georgia and led the Orange and Blue with five RBI and three walks…Also scored twice and swiped two bases...Tied career highs with two steals and two walks in game three and drove in Brandon McArthur with a two-out single to right in the third inning...Plated the Gators’ first three runs in game two with an RBI groundout and a two-RBI double in his first two at-bats…Went 3-for-12 (.250) in the return to his home state of Kentucky...Made his first career start at first base in the finale...Went 4-for-12 (.333) against LSU and drove in two runs...Had a 3-for-4 outing on Saturday, the third time in the last four games with three hits...Delivered a two-run single in the third...Burst out of recent slump with a pair of three-hit outings versus Jacksonville...Was 3-for-5 and poked a two-run single in the third inning of game two...Also had a 3-for-5 outing on Tuesday, with a pair of RBI singles...Went 2-for-5 in the third meeting with Ole Miss and had an RBI single as part of the four-run first stanza... AS A JUNIOR (2007): The Gators’ starting shortstop for the first 18 games started 40 of the last 41 games at third base...Missed his only game of the season against North Florida when he tweaked his hamstring in the finale against Alabama...Rated fifth on the club with a .280 clip, tied for second with 48 runs and totaled 34 RBI...Was second behind Matt LaPorta (55) with 33 free passes...Contributed four sacrifice hits and three sac flies...Started the finale at Texas A&M on the hot corner and remained there for the remainder of the season...Charged with a team-high 21 errors but committed just eight at third base...Had 20 multiple-hit and nine multiple-RBI outings in 58 games...Batted .268 in SEC play with 22 runs, 21 RBI and 20 walks...Went 4-for-10 (.400) during the two wins over LSU...Scored twice on both Friday and Saturday...Connected on his sixth HR in the first meeting with the Tigers...Rated second on the Gators with a .455 (5-for-11) showing versus Alabama...Set a season high with four RBI in the 9-3 victory over the Crimson Tide courtesy of a two-run homer and a pair of sacrifice flies...Legged out his first career triple, UF’s first in SEC play, in the series opener...Had a .500 (7-for-14) effort versus Kentucky and registered three-hit outputs in the final two games against the Wildcats...Equaled season high with three runs in the second game, when he was 3-for-5 with a run-scoring single and an RBI double...Was the Gators’ second-best hitter against South Carolina with a .417 (5-for-12) performance...Was 2-for-5 and drew a pair of walks in the finale...Poked two hits and collected an RBI in the first meeting with the Gamecocks...Scored three runs in the win over top-ranked Florida State, when he was 1-for-4 and drew a walk...Was 3-for-11 (.273) at Georgia, including a 2-for-4, two-walk performance in the series finale...Chipped in with a two-run single and scored twice in the opener with the Tigers...Poked an RBI single in the seventh at Stetson…Drove in three runs during the Mississippi State series...Chipped in two hits and a couple of RBI in the second game, a 10-8 win, and belted his fourth homer in the opener...Was 1-for-2 and drew a walk against Army...Was 3-for-12 (.250) against the Aggies and was 2-for-4 in the opener with a stolen base...Hit .429 (6-for-14) with six runs in the broom job of George Washington…Had two hits and two RBI in the finale after going 3-for-6 with three runs and two RBI in game two...Drew a walk in each meeting with the Colonials...Batted .286 (2-for-7) against Kent State, with three sacrifices (2 SH, 1 SF), three walks and two runs...Delivered a couple of sac bunts in the series finale with the Golden Flashes...Connected on a solo shot in the first meeting with KSU, when he was 2-for-5...Had one hit in five AB versus Florida State...Led Florida with a 4-for-12 (.333) performance against Miami (Fla.)...Snapped a scoreless tie in the series opener with a leadoff homer in the fourth inning...Finished that contest 2-for-4 with two RBI and also chipped in with a sacrifice...Stroked two more hits on Saturday and scored twice...Tallied three hits against Florida A&M...Went 6-for-13 (.462) in the series with VMI...Clubbed his first HR on opening night.

AT SADDLEBACK C.C. (2006): Was named second-team All-Orange Empire Conference at Saddleback in 2006 while playing for head coach Jack Hodges…Shared the team's Most Valuable Player award…Batted .374 with 12 doubles, three homers and two triples as the Gauchos placed fourth in their league…Set a school record with 10 assists in one game. 

AT LOUISVILLE (2005): Played 23 games, with three starts at designated hitter, for Louisville in 2005…Hit .286 (6-for-21) and was 3-for-8 in pinch-hitting appearances….Scored a run as a pinch-runner in win over Evansville…Came through with a key pinch hit in a win at No. 24 TCU…Smacked a pinch-hit single in a victory over Butler…Delivered a pair of base hits in his second and third collegiate at bats against No. 12 Georgia...Entered his first collegiate game at third base as a defensive replacement and picked up an assist.

HIGH SCHOOL: Played baseball at South Laurel High School for head coaches G.J. Smith and Scott Gaines…Hit .415 during his senior season, when he was selected to the all-state and all-region squads…Three-time all-district recipient…His 2003 American Legion team captured the state tournament…Was named the county player of the year in both baseball and basketball as a senior…. Received all-region and all-state recognition his final prep season in basketball….Also played soccer and was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

PERSONAL: Jonathan Landis Townsend was born Sept. 24, 1984, in Birmingham, Ala…His parents are Rick and Lynn Townsend…His father played football at West Virginia…Has two siblings, Dinah Bevington, 28, and Tanner Townsend, 26…Dinah played tennis at Western Kentucky and Tanner was a member of the Hilltopper baseball team…Enjoys movies, reading and people-watching…Majoring in public relations.
