Major: History

 

AS A JUNIOR (2009): Tabbed by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 16th round with the 475th selection of the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft… Named to the Preseason Watch List for the Golden Spikes Award and was a second-team Preseason All-American by Baseball America and the NCBWA entering last season...Chosen to the SEC’s All-Defensive Team for the second year in a row...Florida’s starting center fielder had a .296 batting average, 37 RBI, nine doubles and five homers...Led the Gators with 14 hit-by-pitches and seven sacrifice hits and was second behind Avery Barnes with 17 stolen bases...Ranked second in runs (63) and walks (34) and fifth in on-base-percentage (.412)...Batted .257 during SEC play with 28 runs, 14 walks, and was 10-for-10 on the basepaths...Ended the season on a nine-game hitting streak in which he was 10-for-36 (.278) with eight RBI and five runs...Was 2-for-7 (.286) in the NCAA Super Regional and had a hit and an RBI in each outing...Delivered a two-out, run-scoring single in the ninth of the opener...Had a sacrifice fly as part of the four-run third in game two...Earned All-Tourney recognition as an outfielder during the NCAA Gainesville Regional after hitting .308 (4-for-13) with five RBI...Was 2-for-4 and matched his season high with three RBI in the Regional final against No. 17 Miami (Fla.), including a pair of sacrifice flies...Laid down a bunt single that brought across Jonathan Pigott in the third inning on Saturday night...Came through with clutch RBI single in the bottom of the ninth against Bethune-Cookman that cut the deficit to 7-6...Had a hit in all three games of the SEC Tournament and was 3-for-11 (.273) with three runs and a couple of walks...Poked a ground-rule double and scored in the second meeting with Arkansas...Matched a career best with two doubles and had hits in his first three at-bats en route to a 3-for-4 night with two runs scored in the 7-4 win over Jacksonville...Was 3-for-9 (.333) in the series at LSU, also reaching base with two walks and a hit-by-pitch...Was 3-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored in the game-three victory…Was 5-for-14 (.357) against Georgia, with two runs and two RBI…Went 2-for-5 on Sunday and had an RBI single in the eighth and a clutch double in the ninth...Had a bunt single that scored Josh Adams in the fifth on Saturday...Opened the series by going 2-for-4...Led off the game at Florida State by being hit by a pitch and finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored...Was 3-for-12 (.250) at Auburn with three runs, three walks and his fifth homer of the season...Set a career-high with four runs scored in the 16-3 romp over UCF...Went 2-for-4 and scored twice in the 12-7 conquest of Bethune-Cookman…Recorded at least one hit in each game of the Vanderbilt series, going 5-for-13 (.385) with five runs and four stolen bases...Saw an end to his 11-game hitting streak, two shy of matching his career high, by going 0-for-2 with a sac bunt in Jacksonville against Florida State...Hit .395 (17-for-43) with 16 runs and six RBI during the stretch...Was 4-for-12 (.333) in the sweep of Alabama and scored five runs...Turned in a 2-for-3 effort in the finale, with three runs and an RBI triple in the fifth inning...Was 3-for-7 (.429) in the home-and-home series with UNF...Went 4-for-13 (.308) with six runs and was 2-for-2 on the basepaths in the sweep of Tennessee...Turned a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 victory with a two-run jack in the eighth inning of the opener…Debuted in the leadoff spot at UCF on March 18 and went 3-for-5 with an RBI single in the third inning that started the scoring...Was 1-for-3 and came across with the winning run on Buddy Munroe’s walk-off single to defeat Florida State, 5-4...Had opened the ninth with a base-hit through the left side...Connected on a three-run homer to open the scoring in game one of the Duquesne series and was 2-for-2 in the 10-5 victory...Gave the Gators a 4-0 advantage over Florida Atlantic with his first homer of the year, a three-run blast in the fourth inning...Hit .375 (3-for-8) and scored four runs in the sweep of Eastern Michigan...Was 3-for-5 and scored three times during the finale...Tied a single-game school record by being hit three times in the second meeting with Louisville...Scored three runs and added an RBI double in that outing.

 

AS A SOPHOMORE (2008): Earned a spot on the SEC Academic Honor Roll…First-team All-SEC selection in the outfield who was also a member of the league’s inaugural Defensive Team...Started 55 games in center field and had a .333 average with 55 runs, 48 RBI, nine doubles, eight homers and two triples...Drew 29 walks and was 20-for-20 on the basepaths...Batted .351 in SEC play with 25 runs, 24 RBI, 12 steals and 11 walks…Was the lone Gator selected to the NCAA Tallahassee Regional All-Tournament squad after going 3-for-4 with three runs in UF's 17-11 setback to Florida State…Bounced back from 0-for-4 start to the SEC Tournament by going 3-for-4 against South Carolina for a .375 clip...Scored all of the Gators’ runs in the loss to the Gamecocks, matching his career high...Powered the Gators to the sweep of Vanderbilt by hitting .538 (7-for-13) with four runs and three RBI...Went 3-for-5, highlighted by a two-out, two-run single in the eighth when UF was down 11-8...Tied Brandon McArthur with a team-best 6-for-14 (.429) performance at Alabama...Scored two runs, had an RBI, and stole a base...Tied a career-high with three hits in game two...Poked a two-run single with the sacks full in the sixth against Bethune-Cookman...Was 4-for-11 (.364) in the South Carolina series with three runs, two RBI, two walks, and two steals...Went 4-for-11 (.364) against Georgia with three runs, three steals, two walks, and an RBI...Set a career high by swiping three bags in game two...Helped lead the Gators to the game-two victory by reaching base in every plate appearance, going 3-for-3 with two runs, an RBI, and a walk...Drove in seven runs at Kentucky and hit .400 (4-for-10) over the three games...Tied the finale with a two-run shot in the sixth inning and was 2-for-4...Drew two walks and collected two RBI in the 13-7 win...Put the Gators ahead in the opener with a two-run homer in the seventh...Wound up 2-for-3 with three RBI and scored twice...Had 2-for-4 afternoon with an infield RBI single in the 6-1 win over Arkansas...Second on the club with a .375 (3-for-8) clip in the two contests with UNF...Was 3-for-4 in the opener with an RBI double...Drove in four runs with a three-run homer in the second and a triple in the fourth during the 11-10 setback to North Florida on April 2...Matched Cole Figueroa for the top spot against LSU with a .500 (5-for-10) performance...Led the squad with four RBI, including a two-run homer in game two and a solo shot in the opener...Tied career high with three hits and went 3-for-4 in the come-from-behind triumph on Friday...Saw an end to his career-high 13-game hitting streak in which he was 18-for-54 (.333) by going 0-for-3 with a sac fly in game two at Ole Miss...Robbed Auburn slugger Hunter Morris of a homer in the second inning of game one...Went 4-for-13 (.308) versus Brown and totaled four RBI...Keyed the Gators’ win in the rubber game by going 2-for-5 with three runs and three RBI...Plated two runs with a double and had two stolen bases…Batted .500 (5-for-10) clip during the sweep of Campbell...Led the team with six runs and matched Figueroa for the top spot with five RBI...Made collegiate debut as a pitcher in the opener and worked 2.2 innings (5 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 1 K)...Went 2-for-3 with a career-high six RBI in his season debut against Eastern Michigan...Cranked his first career grand slam to right field in the second inning...Stroked a two-run single as part of a five-run fifth.

 

AS A FRESHMAN (2007): Selected to the SEC’s All-Freshman Team...Started 42 games in center field and appeared in 56 games...Batted .234 with 37 runs, 25 RBI, 21 walks and seven homers...Was 5-for-7 on the basepaths...Was 20-for-84 (.235) with 21 runs (fourth on the club) in 29 league games and made 23 starts...Entered the SEC Tournament on an eight-game hitting streak in which he was 11-for-29 (.379)...Raised the streak to nine games by going 1-for-5 in the 12-inning setback to South Carolina...Was a bright spot in the regular-season finale against Tennessee, when he went 3-for-4 with a solo homer off the scoreboard and a double...Was 2-for-4 with two runs in game one at LSU, his lone start of the weekend... Turned in two spectacular defensive plays at Florida State on April 18...In the fourth, Jack Rye launched a ball to deep center that the rookie tracked down with a full sprint and a leaping grab against the center-field wall...In the seventh with the Gators clinging to a one-run edge, den Dekker made another sterling catch at the warning catch to rob Ohmed Danesh of potential extra bases with a runner on second and one down...Started twice at Arkansas and was 1-for-4 with three walks, a pair of RBI and a run...Foiled the Hogs’ bid for a shutout in the ninth stanza of game two with an RBI single...Became the first Gator to steal two bases in the same game that season with two thefts in the finale with South Carolina...Went 2-for-4 in the opener...Homered for the second game in a row with a solo shot in the eighth against Florida State and had an RBI fielder’s choice...Socked a solo homer in the 11th to lift the Gators to a 3-2 victory over Georgia to finish a sweep of the Bulldogs...Matched a season high by driving in three runs in the 12-9 slugfest with Auburn...Came through with a leadoff double in the seventh against Army and later scored...Tied the series finale at Texas A&M at 1-1 with a fourth-inning homer...Both of his hits against George Washington were home runs...Roped a bases-clearing triple with two down in the ninth at USF to snap a 5-5 tie and power the Gators to a 10-5 victory...Also contributed a single in the eighth inning and finished the game 2-for-2...Stole two bases in two attempts and drew two free passes against Miami (Fla.)...Homered on the first pitch he saw against Florida A&M on his way to a 2-for-3, three-RBI performance...Poked his first career double and drew two walks in the meeting with the Rattlers.

 

SUMMER: Competed for the USA National Team in the summer of 2008 that was a perfect 24-0 and captured the gold medal at the FISU World Championships in the Czech Republic…Saw action in all 24 games, with 20 starts, and hit .229 with 11 runs and nine RBI…Led the club with five sacrifice hits, tied for the team lead in triples and was tied for third in walks…Chosen to Team USA after batting .370 (10-for-27) during the Trials.

 

HIGH SCHOOL: Attended Westminster Academy, where he played for head coaches Rich Hofman and Gregg Mucerino and was a teammate of UF classmate Kevin Chapman…Tabbed as a first-team Louisville Slugger All-American, second-team all-state and first-team all-county selection in 2006…Batted .455 with 34 runs, 20 runs batted in and seven homers during his senior season, when he was the club's co-captain…Turned in a 7-1 ledger on the mound…Westminster finished 18-8 and advanced to the District 14-3A title game…Was chosen first-team all-county by the Miami Herald during his junior campaign after batting .350 with 30 runs, 18 RBI and four homers…The Lions posted a 25-4-1 record.
