AS A FRESHMAN (2006): Made 13 appearances in his rookie campaign and started eight games, the second-highest total behind the 15 apiece by Bryan Augenstein and Bryan Ball…Posted a 2-3 overall record with an 8.01 earned run average in 30.1 innings and notched 20 strikeouts…Started five games in SEC play (Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee, Auburn, Georgia) and was 1-3…Collected the victory in the season finale against LSU with 1.2 scoreless innings after taking over for J.K. HIGH SCHOOL: Four-year letterwinner for head coach Ralph Henriquez at Key West High School…First-team all-state and first-team all-county selection as a senior…Named the team's Most Valuable Pitcher and Most Improved Player after giving up basketball and football to focus on baseball…Led the Conchs to a 27-5 record and their 11th state championship in 2005 by going 13-2 on the hill…His squad out-scored its opponents, 59-4, during the state tournament…Registered a 2.17 ERA, with 90 strikeouts and 17 walks in 77 innings…Was 4-0 in the playoffs with three complete games and an unblemished 0.00 ERA…Surrendered nine hits in 25 frames, culminating in a no-hitter against Pensacola Catholic in the state semifinals held in Sarasota…Notched 10 strikeouts without issuing a walk during the 9-0 win…Missed his senior prom to pitch in that contest…Was first-team all-county as a junior, when the Conchs captured the district championship…Chosen as an All-Tournament Scholastic Player at the prestigious Westminster National Baseball Classic…Pitched for the Florida Bombers AAU team in the summer of 2004, where he picked up the victory in the semifinal round of the Southeast Regional…The triumph enabled the Bombers to become the first Florida team to advance to the Connie Mack World Series in Farmington, N.M…Attended the Perfect Game National Showcase at Tropicana Field and was invited to participate in the East Coast Professional Showcase, the AFLAC Classic Showcase and Florida's Diamond Club Showcase, among several others…Earned the football team's outstanding receivers' award as a sophomore.
